# Possible new schedule
---
With less funding and a smaller team, we are taking steps to reduce our workload.
---
## Step 1: shorter programmes
---
### Foundation
6 weeks, whether funded or not
---
### Apprenticeship
- Initial training: 6 weeks
- Gateway: 12 months
- Start to finish: 14 months
---
## Step 2: Shifted schedule
with a 6-week gap between Foundation and apprenticeship, to allow more time for hiring.
---
### What it might look like
- Feb 24th: Foundation begins
- April 3rd: Foundation ends
- May 12th: Apprenticeship training begins
- June 19th: Apprenticeship training ends
- June 30th: Foundation begins
- August 7th: Foundation ends
- Sept 22nd: Apprenticeship training begins
- Oct 30th: Apprenticeship training ends...
---
Note: There is a chance that we will also run an apprenticeship programme in January, but only if we get interest from employers that is too late for our October deadline.
---
### Step 3: Automation
When not in the classroom, apprentices will write software to automate our processes, led by the needs of the core team.
---
So, what will the new FAC apprenticeship schedule look like?
---
## New apprentice schedule
- In advance: Portfolio+Foundation
- Weeks 1-6: apprenticeship training
- Weeks 8-13: Facilitate Foundation
- Weeks 14-19: Developer onboarding
- Weeks 20-25: Facilitate apprenticeship
- Weeks 27-52: Developer-in-residence
- Weeks 53-61: Gateway
---
## Questions and answers
---
1. How does this new schedule impact apprentice recruitment?
The FAC apprentice will be recruited during the Foundation programme. Our next hire will probably start in May 2025.
---
2. How will this affect facilitator onboarding?
From next year, onboarding will happen in reading week, right after the apprentice training block and just before the Foundation begins.
---
3. What about curriculum development?
The focus of any curriculum changes will be changes to the languages and tools and methods used by our developers in the work that they do for us.
---
4. How does this meet the needs of FAC apprentices?
Our apprentices will facilitate in two separate 6-week blocks with a break in between and for the rest of the time will play a critical role for us in developing our learning platform and creating content for it.
---
5. How does this affect learners and employers?
Learners will need to study full-time for 6 weeks without pay, but they will be better prepared for apprenticeship interviews and will join their employers sooner.
---
That's it.
