# Skills Bootcamp proposal --- The Skills Bootcamp format's not great. --- Evenings, online, part-time is not what FAC's about. --- This Friday pre-party, the DfE came to Space4. Something interesting came out of it. --- We can request a "CCN" In other words, a format change. --- If total price remains the same, it might get approved. --- Currently we have 24 places per term @ £6k per place. --- We could change that to 16 places per term @ £9k per place. By happy coincidence, £9k is exactly half the apprenticeship price. --- So, what does it mean? It's radical... --- Founders and Coders is going back to our roots! --- The Skills Bootcamp becomes exactly half of the training. The new format is the old format... --- ## 8 weeks full-time Followed by... --- ## 6 weeks on apprenticeship --- That's 14 weeks in total, just like the old days. Plus 10 days of workshops, in the following 12 months. --- There are significant benefits of this approach. --- **1. It's the old FAC model**, which we know works. --- **2. For learners**: It would be a better experience, with more options after they graduate. --- **3. For employers**: Way more flexibility. More experienced candidates, Shorter waiting times, Apprenticeships are optional, Hire, Train, Deploy. --- And, it's a solution to the Hackney problem in time for Haringey to use it. --- **4. For us**: No evening sessions, One programme straight through, Fewer people on programme, Easier to manage, and a reduced load. --- **5. Financially**, it's better too. About the same money, but it comes in more quickly, and apprenticeships are optional. --- **6. For the DfE**: Better outcomes, almost certainly, at no extra cost. --- ## The drawbacks There are some. --- #### 1. Affordability for learners mitigated by bursaries? --- #### 2. 14-week terms --- #### 3. Managing the transition with our current backlog of unapprenticed learners. --- ## Recommended course of action --- Put an application in while we await the decision of the GLA, to give us reflection time before we make the leap.
