# New FAC curriculum December 2023 retreat --- The job market has changed. Our curriculum needs to change with it. --- ### Changes afoot 1. A broader curriculum 2. Clearer learning outcomes (what, how, why) 3. Less reliance on workshops (for flexibility) 4. Regular assessments 5. A longer journey --- ### Generative AI We are embracing generative AI, but it has to be combined with rigorous assessment, to ensure that learners actually understand what they are doing. --- ### What's still missing - Assessments (awaiting updates from MLX) - New workshop material (perhaps?) --- ### The pathway 1. Application 2. Pre-foundation 3. Foundation 4. Portfolio building 5. Apprenticeship training 6. Continuing learning --- What's changed? --- ### 1. Application We now have rolling applications. Once the cohort is full, we close applications. --- ### 2. Pre-Foundation We now expect learners to make a start on Execute Program as soon as they are accepted onto the Foundation. --- ### 3. Foundation The curriculum has been largely re-written and we are delivering it to FAC29B. It will be documented and ready for delivery in January. --- ### 4. "Portfolio building" This is a new programme. Weekly online job hunting and Unschool learning. An opportunity to try out new material. --- ### 5. Apprenticeship training Our next cohort is delayed, but we expect to start work in January on some major changes to the apprenticeship curriculum. --- Provisionally, we are looking to transition to 3 major topics over the first 9 weeks in 2 different languages, in order to match the requirements of employers. --- ### 6. Continuing learning We are still refining how best to serve apprentices after the initial training. It is likely to include more in-person workshops in future.
