# FAC + MLX --- ## FAC We have always aspired to be both a training organisation (for "coders") and an incubator (for "founders"). --- ### History of Founders - GlobeTown, 2016-21 (Izaak, Bes) - Tech for Better, 2017- - InFact, 2017-2022 (Ivan and others) - Founders Programme, 2017-8 - Yalla, 2018- (Joe and others) - MLX, 2023- (Izaak, Bes) --- ## MLX We have been incubating MLX since the start of this year. It's a bit different from previous spinoffs. --- ### 1. Bes and Izaak took the initiative They put all the groundwork in and were adding value from the start. --- ### 2. It's made something possible Neither FAC nor MLX could have done an AI apprenticeship alone. --- ### 3. It's already providing benefit Our balance sheet is improving, and so is our reach. --- ### How long is this going to take? There is no agreed timescale yet. --- That's it. --- Actually, not quite. --- # The apprentices --- We now have four apprentices on the team, we are probably going to hire a 5th before the end of this term and two more each term. by this time next year, we are aiming to have 9-10 on programme. --- This will allow us to support the applicant pool, run Skills Bootcamps, and the first 12 weeks of appprenticeship training. --- Salaries (if I have done my sums right) will be entirely covered by Skills bootcamp funding. --- We will run this a lot like the Founders programme that Intersticia and FAC piloted in 2018. --- --- It's going to look broadly like this: - Term 1: 90% Apprentice training - Term 2: 50%[?] Course facilitation - Term 3: 70% Tech for Better/Founders programme - Term 4: 70% Tech for Better/Founders programme --- Apprentices will be expected to set aside 12 hours/week in Terms 3 and 4 to support FAC programmes. --- Questions?
