# Prevent
---
## Huh?
---
> *"The aim of Prevent is to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism."*
>
---
## Prevent duty
---
##### Certain organisations have a duty to follow the Prevent duty guidance prepared by the Home Office. These include *"education providers which are subject to the Ofsted inspection regime"*.
###### That's us.

## Official Statistics
##### A few highlights
---
##### Individuals referred to and supported through the Prevent Programme, April 2023 to March 2024
###### Published 5 December 2024
---
### First, some definitions
- **Referral**: A reported case
- **Channel**: the panel that reviews referrals
- **Adopted**: Referrals escalated by Channel
---
- In recent years, referrals have been growing, but adoptions have been falling.
---
- Males make up around 90% of referrals and adoptions
---
- Children 11-15 are the biggest category by far with 40% of all referrals and 50% of those adopted
---
- Right-wing concerns make up around 45% of all adoptions
---
- Right-wing concerns are turned into Channel cases at twice the rate of Islamist ones (45 vs 23%)
---
- Some regional areas seem to over-report in general (i.e lots of referrals, but not many Channel cases), e.g. East Midlands, while others do the opposite, e.g. East of England.
---
- "Other" concerns capture a range of categories that together represent less than 2% of referrals. These include the "Left-wing, anarchist or single-issue terrorism (LASIT)" category introduced in 2022.
