# Alternate-Save-Mode (Synthetic 4 and 5 clues)
## Principles
- No save clues on special suits (brown, ?). These clues touching chop (other than rank 4 and 5) are simply play clues.
- Players are allowed to cm any card they want.
## 4 Clues
A 4 clue is always a single cm. Mark all newly touched cards "unclued"
## 5 Clues
A 5 clue is always a double cm. Mark all newly touched cards "unclued"
## Stalling situations
- 4 and 5 are regular clues, color to chop still play clue unless clearly save. Prefer fill-in.
## Signal shifts
The following chart refers to the (possibly two) cards chop moved by the corresponding clue at the column head.
| 4 Clue | 5 Clue | Response |
| -------- | -------- | -------- |
| Playable | Left-most playable | Ignition |
| Trash | Left-most trash | Ejection |
| Suboptimal* | Right-most trash | Discharge |
| - | Both trash | Charm |
| - | Right-most playable | Blast |
*Suboptimal: A 4 clue was given that put a critical card on chop when a 5 clue should have been given.
- Example:
- Bob: x x b5 r3
Alice clues Bob "4" chop moving a critical r3. But this save would be better given with 5, also picking up b5.
- After a 4 clue that caused a charm discharge should double cm.
- After a 5 clue the card which signal was not shifted should be still cmed.
- Chop moving duplicate cards with a 5 clue is an ejection.
- If a 4 clue that caused an ejection or a 5 clue that caused a charm was unnecessary it causes a trash push.
## Loaded clues in null < under construction >
Alice can cause Bob to play his chop with a loaded "4" clue.
# Funnels (OLD)
## Color clues
- Color clues do not change from H-group.
## 4 Clues
- If any new 5's are revealed (with a negative), the clue is standard 5 clue (5 save, 5cm, 5 tech). Mark all (newly touched) 4's as "unclued"
- Otherwise, the 4 is a regular clue on just the chop 4. Mark all other (newly touched) 4's as "unclued".
## 5 Clues
- If it can be, it is a double ignition (standard DI rules, favor DI on Bob, etc).
The double ignition clue must be on the **last player** with a playable on finesse. Otherwise, it reverts to a no-info ejection (possibly unnecessary).
- Otherwise, it is a no-positive-information ejection on Roger (the receiver of the clue). See [special moves](https://hanabi.github.io/docs/variant-specific/no-positive-clues/#special-move-summary "title")
- If the ejection on roger was unnecessary and cannot be a 5, it is a double ejection (Bob and either Roger or Cathy, whoever has the last playable on ejection)
## Brown Variants
- In **brown**, brown is play chop, 4 is single cm
- In **null**, 4 is single save, 5 is kick
## Pink Variants
- Save **pink 5** with rank 2. Like normal 2 saves, all touched cards are clued.
