  • Anything that has ever existed can be plotted on a chart, a single image that tells the story of the Big Bang, how space relates to time and energy, a poster about how quarks become protons, how stars become black holes, how asteroids become planets, and which animals will float in water. It’s a whole physics lecture on a single page. It’s one of my proudest information design creations. Let’s walk through it. β€” The Powers of 100 Let’s imagine a scatter density plot, where we plot how much something weighs on the vertical axis and its width (or diameter) on the horizontal one. It’s a logarithmic plot, meaning that every grid represents an increase of 10x in mass or width. The first thing we’ll notice is that most things will follow a diagonal line, with an angle of about 3 to 1: that makes sense, since for every 10x increase in length, an object actually increases 1000x in volume. This is an isodensity line, showing that from a single grain of salt to red blood cells to the Vegas Sphere, weight is roughly proportional to volume always. The blue dotted line in the center also represents the density of water: given a large enough pool, anything to the left of it will sink, anything to the right will float. As we keep increasing the size of our objects, we are reaching objects outside of Earth, such as asteroids, moons, and planets. The smallest asteroid in the list is Itokawa, which was visited by a Hayabusa space probe and successfully returned to Earth, the first probe ever to accomplish that.

  • Context On November 11th, 2023, the Meta-Governance Working Group proposed the transfer of control over the ENS root key to the ENS DAO. This proposal marks a significant milestone in the development of the ENS DAO, which is designed to govern matters related to the ENS Protocol. This initiative aligns with Ethereum's core values, particularly the 'Philosophy of Subtraction'. This philosophy underscores the importance of preventing control by any single entity and of redistributing both opportunities and responsibilities among the protocol's users. In this article, I will elucidate the powers that the ENS DAO will inherit and explain why a distributed decision-making process is key to managing these powers responsibly. Additionally, I will provide a high-level overview of the ENS root key, review how previous administrative changes were handled, and explore their potential management within the DAO's governance framework. β€” Why is Decentralization Important? • Overview: Our project aims to streamline and decentralize the registration process of ENS subnames by leveraging Layer 2 (L2) solutions. By transitioning from traditional databases to decentralized protocols, we aspire to make the process more secure, transparent, and cost-effective. The project comprises four crucial stages that will transition the existing system to a Layer 2-enabled platform. Stages of Implementation: 1. Deploying NFT Contract to Scroll: Objective: In the initial phase, an NFT contract will be deployed to Scroll. This contract will serve as the foundation for users to register ENS subnames as non-fungible tokens, ensuring uniqueness and verifiability of each registered subname. Outcome: Users will have the capability to register their desired ENS subnames as NFTs on Scroll. 2. Modification of Cloudflare Worker: Objective: Transitioning the Cloudflare worker to read from the L2 contract. The worker will no longer rely on the Cloudflare D1 database for information retrieval.

  • Tl;dr: The ENS DAO Newsletter has been funded for its upcoming term, focusing on archiving content and providing bi-weekly updates to the community; a preview of the new DAO newsletter format can be found here. β€” Focus on Archival Content and Strategic Accessibility The ENS DAO Newsletter's primary focus for the allocated funding will be on publishing and archiving content for better accessibility. The project aims to create a comprehensive archive of past editions, making them easily searchable and accessible for the community. As part of this effort, the newsletter will be rethinking its accessibility initiatives, with translations being approached in a more strategic and high-impact manner, catering to the audience's demographics and reader demand. To achieve this, the newsletter will temporarily pause the production of regular editorials and translations. Instead, the editorial content will be considered on a case-by-case basis, focusing on presenting more relevant, results-driven developments within ENS and the broader Ethereum Ecosystem.
