# Padawan wallet(Case Study - Research 1/2)
## Project Description
Padawan wallet is a bitcoin wallet that uses test-net. Test-net stands for **test network**, it's a type of network that behaves exactly the same as the real bitcoin network, but it has no monetary value.
Padawan uses this to its advantage; Users get to practice what they learn from the bite-size lessons they take in-app. This range from sending/receiving bitcoin to back up seed phrase.

## Challenge - The painpoint users face
As a new user entering into the bitcoin space understanding how to use wallet is very crucial. The wallet houses everything you will use to perform transactions.
There exist core differences between a digital wallet using everyday currencies(dollar, naira, euro etc) and a wallet that uses cryptocurries. This distinction takes time for anyone to get a hang of it when using a crypto wallet for the first time.
For example, seed phrase is a concept new users find confusing and not know its importance in a wallet. Not understanding the importance of a seedphrase can lead to loss of a wallet or funds.
Considering testnet(test network) is a 'mirrored' version of the main bitcoin network(mainnet. It can do all the main padawan trys to make people familiar with how wallet works through practice and instructional content. Thereby addressing these issues. A say mirrored to get not get into any complexities.
The app had attempted to solve all these painpoints mention, it just needed input from ux design side to better the experience.

## Approach we took: How we approach designing for padawan
One of the goals we had going into the research phase was to understand the problem users face at their first attempt of interacting with a wallet and how come with a solution designing for that.
Thunderbiscuit, one of the stackholders, also pointed out some of the constraints we should have in mind when designing for padawan. These limitaions were:
* No creating of user accounts.
* No storing users information.
* the product lifecycle should be within the boundaries of a week. So users learn and get onboarded to the main bitcoin wallet as soon as possible.
### Understanding users and the current state of the app(Early research phrase):
To get things started, we carried out research to gain a general understanding of how a wallet works. This involved reviewing a wide range of interviews from the bitcoin design guide, books, articles on wallets and Apps that have good learning features experience.
Autumn then came up with this interview questions:
1. Have you ever used a bitcoin wallet before?
1. What are your feelings towards using a wallet?
1. If you have used a bitcoin wallet before how did you feel when setting it up?
1. If you have used a bitcoin wallet before what is something you wished you had that could make the experience better?
1. If you haven’t used a bitcoin wallet before what are some things you are stoping you for before using one?
In this area of research the [bitcoin design guide](https://bitcoin.design/guide/resources/design-research/) helped alot. Many of the pain points and how to solve for it came from the guide
Some of the insights i identified based on my research were:
1. The doubt people have of bitcoin is as a result of it complexity.
1. The transition from fiat to bitcoin and vice verse is not seemless. so people it becomes a hurdle for potiential users.
1. People need to feel related to others who use BTC. Because of the noise, scams and volatility that comes with cryptocurrience, there a preference to get into bitcoin if there a reliable friend or source to ask all the question that may arise.
1. Tense Onboarding: on-boarding of exiting wallet feels to technical so that is usually not a place for learning.
1. Seed phrase: This is the most important thing that makes a wallet, Making user see the its importance before hopping to a real wallet would create a soft landing.
People tend to gain confidence of bitcoin when they have an understanding of how it works.

As soon as I established the insights i had gotten from the research carried. It meant coming up with "how-might-we" for each of each these problems and finding ways to tackle them.
## The ideation Phase:
We went wide in coming up with ideas in this phase. We had some ideas on what the interface would look like based on the insights we had gotten earlier.
Each of insights are broken down into its problem, how might we, and ideas/solutions to solve for it:
### 1. Potential users have doubts bitcoin as a result of it’s complexity:
**How might we simplify the bitcoin wallet experience?**
**Ideas were:**
* Explain bitcoin concept in plain, simple language.
* Use real world analogies to explain complexities.
* Support explanation with illustration
* Suggest bitcoin communities users can discuss complexities/question they have.
* Ask question in app, to know how much the user is following.
### 2. Hard to make the transtion between fiat and bitcoin.
**How might we educate users on how to make the switch from fiat to bitcoin and vis-versa?**
**Ideas were:**
* Suggest credible exchanges and wallet services after users are done all tutorials.
* Give/show/explain to users how a typical user flow of a transaction takes place in these exchanges/wallets.
### 3. People need to feel related to others who use BTC.
**How might we make users feel less lonely as they start their bitcoin jounery?**
**Ideas were:**
1. Changing the scary bitcoin narrative like; your seed phrase, wrong address transaction etc.
1. Make user feel welcome throught a well designed onboarding
1. Recommeeding communites users can keep with on the web and on social medias.
### 4. Tense Onboarding
**How might we calm Users down and Empower them User! in this scenerio**
**Ideas were:**
* Let padawan be their no fan 1. How?
* Say stuff like, "You’ve done incredible stuff before bitcoin! You can do it again. Remind them that they’ve done all of this incredible stuff before, so this time will be no different. This was in a way figuring out the tone of voice to use.
### 5. Complexity of the seed phrase backup.
How might we simplified without compromising security.
**Ideas were:**
* Show backup in a useful and timely manner
* Explain the backup process, lead users through the exercise/tutorial of a backup. This comes up in the Lesson section so user to practice and see how it works.
## Persona
Following the research we had done, we came up with some persona. Meet one of them: Ding Liren

## Market Research
We went through some apps to gather inspiration of some of these features we had pointed out. Duolingo, Mimo, Headway, cashapp were some of the app we checked out.

## Sketches
For sending bitcoin user flow, these was a user flow my teammate, Autumn came up with.

## Low fidelity Wireframes
To help communicate all the ideas we had put together. we started designing the low fidelity wireframe. These were some of the designs i came up with:

Himanshu also had some interesting ideas on some of these ideas too:

So far so good! It has been a lot of research, learning and designing with my wonderful teammates. Great Mentors too, their answers to questions, advise has been really helpful on this journey. To the remaining half🥂
