# Nouns Public
## Introduction
[Nouns Public](https://twitter.com/hongkim__/status/1559870861946941441) is a Nouns DAO fork focused on funding Ethereum public goods that don't align with VC funding due to not having a business model.
Nouns Public NFTs would be auctioned off over time, with the proceeds going to the DAO's treasury; the NFT is meant to capture value through provenance and the [impact certificats](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiDV56o5M7Q) model.
## Differentiation from Nouns DAO
* A **narrower meme of Ethereum public goods**, ideally capturing new capital currently not deployed to Nouns
* **Minimal governance with a default to spend**, e.g. by using a TCR (token-curated registry) of proposals to fund, with automatic spending at a set cadence (e.g. 1/12 of treasury each month)
* Stretch: **[quadratic voting](https://twitter.com/hongkim__/status/1560594693552947201) with sybil resistance** with some strong-enough human identity verification (e.g. social attestations)
## Art
* **It's a Nouns art fork**: Ideally minimal work on top of existing Nouns DAO art, with an outcome owners will be proud to share and make their PFP
* Might add distictive Nouns Public art, e.g. different background colors, a signature accessory
* **Naming**: Nouns lends itself well to speaking of the NFT, e.g. "I own a Noun, I'm a Nouner"; perhaps Nouns Public should rebrand to something that's easier to refer to as an owner?
## User Flows
1. People buy NP NFTs at the auction
1. each NFT grants access to governance (amount of votes TBD)
2. 100% of proceeds go to the DAO treasury
2. NFT holders govern DAO parameters
1. the default spending rate (e.g. 1/12 of the treasury each month)
2. how many votes each NFT gets for voting on what to fund
3. NFT holders curate a list (TCR) of proposals/projects to fund
1. using waterfall funding, until the allocated funds are fully spent
4. Public goods builders get a NP NFT owner to sponsor their proposal, it gets added to the list
## Open Questions
* Art direction and artist(s) on the team
* Voting system: do we have a sybil resistance solution we like to use quadratic voting?
* Auction: what cadence do we want? do we want to explore innovative mechanisms like [VRGDA](https://www.paradigm.xyz/2022/08/vrgda)?
* Minimal governance:
* can smart contracts be upgraded?
* do we keep the standard on-chain proposals system? use a trimmed down version of it? shut it down completely?
