## 1. Why is open science important?
**The four main lines for Research Integrity according to [The European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity](https://allea.org/code-of-conduct/)**
1. **Reliability** - concerns the quality and **reproducibility** of research
2. **Honesty** - concerns the **transparency** and objectivity of research
3. **Respect** - for the human, cultural and ecological environment of research
4. **Accountability** - concerns the implications of publishing the research
---
## 2. Responsible conduct of research is the core value of science :scales:
- Avoid **Fabrication, Falsification, Plagiarism, Misappropriation** (Tenk 2012)
- Consider the **ethicality of your research**: *do no harm* (to subjects, animals, environment, society, and researchers themselves.)
- Avoid **questionable research practices** and do not be sloppy

## 3. Every part of the scientïfic process can be opened :open_book:
**As open as possible as close as necessary**

- Systematic literature reviews
- Hypothesis and ideas -> pre-registrations/registered reports
- Data collection protocols
- Raw and preprocessed data
- Methods used (software and other)
- Derivatives
- Open access publications
*Hint: implement openness from the start!*

## 4. Aalto open science policy & avointiede.fi :earth_africa:
**[Aalto Open Science policy](https://www.aalto.fi/en/open-science-and-research/aalto-university-open-science-and-research-policy)**
- This is not a law, there is no "open science police", read it and consider what you can change in your process to be more open, one step per day.
- Check also https://avointiede.fi (and please give comment on the ongoing draft of "[open research methods policy](https://avointiede.fi/en/news/comment-draft-policy-component-open-research-methods)")

### Come and talk with us ([link](https://www.aalto.fi/en/services/open-science-support-contacts))! :smile_cat:
- **Data agents**: researchdata@aalto.fi (help with legal, ethical, data management, data opening, data sharing, personal data, metadata)
- Main page: https://www.aalto.fi/en/services/research-data-management-rdm-and-open-science
- Our trainings: https://www.aalto.fi/en/services/training-in-research-data-management-and-open-science
- **Aalto Scientific Computing**: https://scicomp.aalto.fi (help with scaling up yor computing, HPC, bugs with your code, consultations on statistics and methods https://jupyter.triton.aalto.fi )
- **Research Software Engineers** https://scicomp.aalto.fi/rse/ (same team as above, but you can hire one software specialist for your project to open the code, to do part of the analysis for you, or to set up things for you and speed up your workflow)

# START HERE
**Daily zoom garage at 13:00 on scientific computing and data management:** https://scicomp.aalto.fi/help/garage/
Join and ask us anything (feel free to tell you that I sent you :) if I am not there for some reason), if we don't know the answer most likely we know someone at Aalto who knows the answer. We help with any computational or data issue with the perspective of the researcher. Usual cases we solve: bug in your code, help with speeding up code, data opening/sharing, code opening, reproducible methods.
