# [List]2024 Winter Vacation Plan ## Meta Stuff - I tried laying down a list of stuff to do last summer vacation - Here's a short review - :heavy_check_mark: Start learning Japanese, at least get familiar with Hiragana. - :x: Finish my high school science report. - DNF, I'm lazy. - :heavy_check_mark: Hack the scanner app and make it possible to scan B5 papers. - It turned out to be relatively easy. - :heavy_check_mark: Take a look at Gentoo, at least read some of it's wiki page - :x: Finish reading the PostgreSQL user manual. - It's simply too long, and I don't really understand join queries, so I stopped there. - :heavy_minus_sign: Actively participate in CloudXact businesses. - I didn't receive work to be done, and the group seemed to be in a inactive state. - :heavy_minus_sign: Fix the CNMC wiki. - It's not possible due to firewall issues, which I weren't able to fix offsite or as a graduate. - I would consider it as a partial success: it's clearly much more productive than previous school vacations, and I did enjoy checking things off the list. - However there's some problems to be addressed: - Some of the goals weren't objective enough in the start, and were change on the fly. - I'll try to make the list contain objectives that is clear about what should be done by when. - It isn't clear how much time is left during execution and there's no schedule at all. - I'll try to add daily and weekly adjectives that's flexible but help get the things done. - Goal were similar and it get painful to continue due to eye soar. - I'll include more stuff that doesn't require me to be in front of my laptop. - There's no clear system for me to track the progress I made. - I'll use HackMD and a public github repo. - Scheduling process: - I'll lay down the rough idea of things that I can do / should get done at the start in the "Theme & Rough Ideas" section. - Which I would probably not change after - I'll then add stuff to "The List", and try to make it possible for me to finish every task or determine it's not worth the effort or not possible. - I may add items to the list when there's less then 5 items on the list. - I may mark items as :heavy_minus_sign:, which means I'm not spending anymore effort on it, and I'll view it as completed in the end. - I'll try my best to make it balanced and exciting instead of giving me extra stress during vacation. ## Theme & Rough Ideas - I bought a new Single Board Computer (a Orange Pi 5+). Couldn't get anything done besides thinking. ### 20240108 I received a HDMI Splitter and a Noctua fan for my OPi 5+ today. However the HDMI Splitter didn't function properly and often cause video capture to stop and freeze. I might buy a more expensive but robust one in the future. The Noctua fan I bought isn't PWM and is thus also a disappointment, though that's due to me not being careful with the item specification. ### 20240109 I've Finished `List Item Creator` while chatting with my friend at midnight. I added corresponding task for each exercise classes. I also added a sleep time tracking task. ### 20240115 I played with some electronics component today and made a SR latch with two relays. I then add a LED as a indicator and make a circuit that charge a $4700\mu\mathrm F$ capacitor. I then hooked up another relay and a coil to the capacitor, which should make the coil become a strong but temporary eletromagnet when a button is pushed, that close the circuit, connecting the capacitor to the coil (via a relay). However the resulting eletromagnet isn't nearly strong enough, and I think I should do some calculation to figure out the problem. Found [UniDic](https://clrd.ninjal.ac.jp/unidic/en/about_unidic_en.html), [WLSP](https://github.com/masayu-a/WLSP-familiarity), and [MeCab](https://fasiha.github.io/mecab-emscripten/). They might help me write a Japanes practicing program. I thought of embedding librime online via wasm, so one can practice typing Japanese without having to install another IME (it can also look nicer this way). Found this [interactive terminal](https://www.eddymens.com/blog/creating-a-browser-based-interactive-terminal-using-xtermjs-and-nodejs) which provide a prove of concept of what it might look like in the end. However I want to be able to compile a whole rust tui app to work in browser as a static site (using wasm). Maybe creating a custom rustc target might be the easiest work? I planned on writing a backend server and a example frontend for them first, then let them make sense out of the backend code and overall structure. I'll then lecture about HTTP, WebSocket, and HTTP long polling, then make them write a frontend (probably with vanilla JavaScript). I also start reading [I want to learn Japanese!](https://www.tofugu.com/learn-japanese/) by TOFUGU because I'm uncertain about my Japanese pronouciation. The article by tofugu provided more information on how to pronouce hiragana correctly. Taught a little Rust today. ### 20240202 Winter vacation training day 3. I overslept but might have dodgded a bullet. Box lectured cryptography and seemed to went poorly. I tried wrapping things up and write a captcha system in the afternoon, but time went quickly, and we couldn't get it done by the end of the training. The whole event is kinda underwhelming, but it's over now and we gotta move on. I might finish the captcha system later but I don't know what for. There's also usually a similar event in the summer vacation, I can improve my teaching abilities and do better then. ### 20240203 Went to gymnastics class today. We only practiced front flip today and I couldn't "jump with both legs" consistently, which I couldn't seemed to sense whether I am or not. ### 20240204 Went to table tennis class today. Have lunch at a buffet restaurant today. Foods are pretty nice except the steak. I might had ate too much. ### 20240205 Did mostly nothing except playing Arcaea and osu! today. And also watched a lot of YT videos... I should probably start restricting my phone screen time and regulate my screen time. ### 20240206 Went to gymnastics class today. I successfully did a backflip without being assited by a rope, which is pretty good progress. The coach still has to kinda grab me though (which make me worry that he'll accidentally take my pants off lol). ### 20240207 Continued to learn subharmonic singing. I also tried recording a short clip of Mr. Sandman. The most difficult part is getting the beats on time. I might record some more tomorrow (and finally complete the task). I tried not eating too much this time, it might not have worked. Created another lyrics document for drizzly rain (but did not finish in time). Practiced singing Bad Apple some more and went to sleep. ### 20240215 Didn't sleep well in the morning. Went to karaoke with irl friends. (and slight fever) I probably caught a cold. I also went to gymnastics class today (not knowing I have probably caught then). Cleaning gpaste history...\ 400+ -> 0\ I accidentally empty it somehow... ### 20240218 My body temperature haven't went higher than 37.2, so I guess it's safe to say I'm mostly recovered. Ate Canned Cod Liver with rice for dinner. It's suprisingly good but very oily. There's 2/3 left so that's probably my next breakfast and next next breakfast. Tried manual compliling ardour. I've successfully compiled it by doing `./waf configure` and `sudo apt install whatever-lib-that's-missing` repeatedly (and ignored [the instruction](https://ardour.org/current_dependencies.html) about custom patched versions of dependencies). The compiling process took 12 minutes on my laptop, and the compiled stuff does run and work. I immediately remove the dependencies though since school is starting and I don't feel like getting into the inner working of a DAW in the following semester. I've also done some other cleanup like removing (probably) unused packages and deleting rust build artifacts. Oh, I also uninstalled Unity, which probably free up more space than all the other steps.
