--- tags: blog, todo --- # Exiting Surveillance Capitalism with a Barebones Organisation [TOC] ## Prehistory https://www.microsolidarity.cc/ Create a cadence to show up together. Decide why you're all here - sympathy, strategy or sounding board? Talk lots about philosophy of and values embedded within the things you want to do together ([more](https://www.loomio.org/d/nvzXIwm3/tell-us-about-your-congregation/5)) Share readings and writings. Focus on what you want to create together, not on your values & beliefs. Perhaps that's a part of why this particular group galvanised. **Memes-** - data commons - collective supply chain governance - https://beefledger.io/project-empower-part-4-when-defi-meets-supply-chain/ - mutual credit currencies - resource-based economies - flows of value and current-sees - sensorica, ValueFlows - fractally composable networks - decentralisation and the pitfalls therin - https://osf.io/m7wyj/ ## Where we're at There are all these competing factors that are just the realities of where we're at in history. We recently had the conversation about all these tools that we're using that we all hate; but we use them because they're free and they do the job really well; and that is one of the problems in the world. We could go down the route of finding all this ethical open source tech to put in Docker containers and run as our own infrastructure now. But that is a significant time & energy investment that we don't really have the bandwidth for that. We're launching a barebones collective with minimal resources on volunteer energy. That's part of the story of how we're building to escape the lock-in that exists with surveillance capitalism. But in the meta-narrative it's about being real and self-critical and acknowledging the realities of where we're at. Rather than putting an image out there of these high ideals of everything being open and free but then falling over ourselves in the machinery of implementing it. Besides, for what we're doing we want a broader interoperability than that. Those open source tools - with some newer exceptions like Matrix - only work within smaller communities. How does our community interoperate with other communities, without sacrificing ease of collaboration? ## Where we're going *DAOs begat DHOs begat DisCOs begat Neighbourhoods.*
