# Stack Too Deep 3.0: Freshers Playbook StackTooDeep is the inaugural Ethereum-focused hackathon conducted by Blockchain Society IIT Roorkee, aiming to foster a culture of Web3 development and promote decentralized innovation. So we will be sharing the research from past two years to help you in the upcoming hackathon. **About the Fresher's Track** * **Eligibility:** Open exclusively to teams consisting of freshers. * **Opportunity:** This is the golden opportunity for freshers as the winners of this track will get direct interviews for the club. **The Winning Pattern: Games and Tools Own DeFi** If you're a fresher, your competitive edge is creativity, not complex finance protocols ,like thinking of a game related to our own college or anything else . So don’t think of complex ideas, either think of a simple idea and implement it fully . **Project Domains :** * **Winning Project Types in Fresher’s Track:** GameFi projects and consumer tools are most successful. * **2024 Winners:** CryptoCampus Legends (a game) and FundFlow (crowdfunding tool). * **2025 Winners:** Endless Car Game and Medical Data Vault (privacy tool). * **Avoid:** Hardcore lending protocols or DEXs. **Complexity vs. Usability:** * **The Rule:** A simple app that actually works is better than a half finished complex idea every time. * **Example:** Medical Data Vault succeeded by keeping it simple: upload, encrypt, done. **The "Wow" Factor: Show, Don’t Tell** * **Visuals & Tangibility:** Projects like Endless Car Game and CryptoCampus Legends win because they can be seen in action right away. * **Relatability:** FundFlow was a hit because judges instantly understood the problem it solved (money transparency). * **Final Word:** If your project requires a long explanation before the demo, you've already lost. **Execution Guide :** You’ve got the idea. Now comes the hard part: actually building it without getting stuck. Most newcomers don’t trip up because they can’t code—they get tangled up by overcomplicating things. So here’s how you keep it simple and fast. **1\. The Tech Stack** At a hackathon, boilerplates save you. * **Your Secret Weapon: Scaffold-ETH 2** * **Why?** It hands you a ready-to-go frontend (Next.js), a set-up smart contract environment (Foundry), and a wallet connector (RainbowKit). One install, everything’s there. * **What you get:** Five hours back. By minute ten, you’re writing the actual logic, not messing with setup. * **For Contracts: Remix or Foundry** * Remix is great for quick tests and debugging. Way faster than writing test scripts. * Use foundry only if you are comfortable with CLI tools and familiar with solidity scripting. **Some sample Ideas:** | Theme | Project Name | Description | | ----- | ----- | ----- | | **DeFi & Payment Rails** | **Splitwise for Web3** | An app for roommates to manage and settle shared expenses (rent, groceries, etc.) instantly in USDC with one tap. Focuses on simple, automated settlement. | | **Agentic AI & x402** | **Decentralized Marketplace for Residential IPs** | Users install a browser extension and earn $0.001 USDC for routing AI agents' traffic through their home internet, giving agents "Residential IPs" to bypass cloud server blocks (e.g., from Amazon/Expedia). | | **Public Goods** | **Transparent Donation Platform** | A platform that allows donors to track every cent of a donation to the final purchase (e.g., rice, shipping) by seeing the exact transaction hash, ensuring real transparency. | | **Privacy** | **Digital Confession Booth or Complaint Box** | A service that allows members of an organization (e.g., students with an @iitr.ac.in email) to submit anonymous feedback or complaints while still proving they are a real member, ensuring their voice is heard privately. | We have provided links below to the winning projects from previous years that we found most creative.
