# NE Solo/Twin 2021 ## Course Course B (93nm). Class 3 with: * Kismet (Archambault 31) PHRF 114 * Memory (J/110) PHRF 96 * Seriana (Omega 42) PHRF 93 ## Start Started at the boat, ~30s after the gun, with Kismet. Memory & Seriana started on-time at the pin. sailplan: full main. J1. weather: sunny. ~11kts. ~90 TWA. ## Leg 1 ### Out of Narragansett Bay Following Kismet. Seriana (behind us messing with our wind) struggling to unfurl their spinnaker (code-0?) Memory to leward under spinnaker (code-0) sailplan: full main. J1. weather: sunny. ~11kts. couple of wind holes. ~90 TWA. ### To Point Judith Fly big A2 for a bit until it was too much. We are west of the fleet, following a course more south than the fleet (for some reason). Gallop is in front of us on a similar track. Kismet is holding its spinnaker much longer than the rest of us but wiping out. Seriana and Kismet appear to be behind and to windward of us. Did we reef? sailplan: full main. Big A2, then full J1. weather: sunny. ~13kts gusting 19/20. ~90 TWA. ### To 1BI Kismet takes down their spinnaker but in the fresher breeze they take a big loss taking it down by going ~1/2nm to the east. They make up that lateral loss though and we can't catch them up. I think we are keeping Seriana and Kismet slightly behind and to windward of us? Did we reef? sailplan: Full main. J1. weather: sunny. ~13kts gusting 18. ~90 AWA. ### To R4 We follow the coast line to R4. Gallop in front. Kismet and Memory ahead to windward. Lost track of Kismet. sailplan: 1 reef in the main. J1. weather: sunny. ~12kts gusting 17. ~90 AWA. ## Leg 2 ### To Southwest Point After rounding R4, we fly the big A2. Kismet and Memory are going much farther south towards the windmills and seem to be struggling with their spinnakers. Gallop is in front of us. Lazy sheet gets wrapped around the sprit during the first gybe but we recover like pros! We mis-judge the gybe and have to gybe a couple more times. weather: ~12kts. ~180 AWA. ### To R32 We try to maintain a hot angle of ~-120 AWA. Plan is to get north of the rhumb line. Surprisingly Kismet and Memory are keeping a lower line. We hit the back side of Block Island and get hit with 22+ kts gusts. Good for boat speed, keeping high averages but the wind also clocks to the north and we can't keep our line. Drop the A2 and continue under jib with -90 AWA. We lose sight of Kismet and Memory and Gallop. ## Leg 3 Did we reef before rounding R32? Very bumpy, unconfortable and WET leg to R2. The wind is very variable oscilating between 10kts and 20kts. sailplan: between 1 and 2 reef + J1 with 2 turns. weather: night falling. ~16kts (+/- 5kts). ## Leg 4 We follow 2 class 1 boats to the finish line. Looking at the finish times they must have been Bully Circus and Samba. sailplan: 1 reef. J1 with 2 turns. weather: night. ~13 kts.
