## Plan for the day:
* subject as produser
* quantified-self
* uncharted data
---
# The produser persona
- prosumer: producer + consumer (Toffler 1971)

(Bruns 2009)
- produser: producer + user (mostly of content, but also technical systems)

(Bruns 2009)
- arguably an alteration of the value chain
----

- produser practices:
- user-led content production
- "products" are temporary artifacts
- collaborative enagagement
- iterative development
- alternative approaches to IP
- heterartical structures -> cooperation (meritocracy)
- Open issues:
- explotation
- Liability / missinformation

# Quantified Self
- A form of **self-improvement** and a form of self-reflection
- **self-tracking !=** tracking of the self by others
- "soft resistance" (Nafus and Sherman 2014)
an important modality of resistance to dominant modes of living with data (...) Soft resistance happens when participants assume multiple roles as project designers, data collectors, and critical sense-makers, rapidly assessing and often changing what data they collect and why in response to idiosyncratically shifting sets of priorities and objectives (Lupton 2016)

----
**Changes to Quantified Self upon computing (Lupton 2016):**
1. Practices are **digitised and automated** (easier to monitor and shape)
2. Stored on **clouds and databases** -> not limited to self-trackers, but to developers, third parties, data mining companies, government agencies, hackers
3. Information with high **commercial value**
----
### Self-improvement and self reflection
Sleep better, eat healthier, exercise more efficiently

Cederström and Spicer 2017 (You can hear a podcast about this project [here](https://youtu.be/dUGBy408ybk))
* The 'good citizen':
that is, a citizen who is responsible, capable and self-regulated in the pursuit of happiness, health, productivity, and well-being (Lupton 2016, 46)
### optimisation != knowledge
----
### Self-tracking and tracking of the self
> the Polar GoFit app with a set of heart-rate sensors is expressly designed for physical education teachers as a monitoring tool for students' physical activities during lessons (Lupton 2016, 24)
one such **assemblage** is **the human-body-device-sensor-software-data** configuration that is generated when people use a digital device to monitor and measure physical activities (Lupton 2016, 40)
### How does the intersection between ✨agency✨ and *automation* works in self-quantification processes?

# Uncharted data

----
### Qualified Self (Humphreys 2018)
- sharing is not a digital practice (diaries, photo albums, etc)
- the accounting of everyday’s life (documentation practices)
- an account of something
- accounting as enumeration
- accountability as liability
- self understanding through “the representations of ourselves [that we create] to be consumed”
- curated photos are not pure narcissism, but a social mediation
----
**Affective computing**: Digital objects and digital devices trigger and store affect/emotional states (Picard 2000)
**"Lively data"** (Savage 2013):
large masses of fluctuating digital data - and fundamentally about human life (Uprichard 2012, Savage 2013): “bodily functions, behaviours, social relationships, moods and emotions”

**Rules**: How to read it? (higher means *x*, lower means *y*)

#### Activity (1-3 people)
1. Choose a proyect from the https://quantifiedself.com/show-and-tell/ catalog OR the quantified selfie http://quantifiedselfie.us/
2. What are the goals of the project? What are the steps (methodology, if any) taken to reach such goal?
3. Is this an individual tracking?
