# New Security Job: Security Dispatcher ## Abstract Security Dispatcher is a new security job that will enhance teamwork by delegating part of the Warden's duties, which are usually overlooked (even by the HoS), to a new role specifically designed for this purpose. This entails functioning as a dispatcher, coordinating officers, reporting crimes, and monitoring sensors and cameras to provide auxiliary support to officers. ## Goals * Enhance teamwork within Security by introducing a dedicated individual (Security Dispatcher) for coordination and providing auxiliary support through intelligence gathered from sensors and cameras. * Address the issue of dispatch responsibilities being overlooked due to the Warden's constant influx of criminals and tiders, and the HoS being occupied with confrontations and clashes. Instead, establish a dedicated role for dispatch duties. ## Non-goals * Rendering the Warden obsolete or incapable of performing their duties. The Security Dispatcher has lower access than even a Security Officer (limited to skeleton crew shifts), specifically preventing them from assuming the Warden's role of protecting the brig. The Warden's consoles remain untouched, and they can still undertake the duties of a Dispatcher if they choose to do so. * Making the Head of Security obsolete. The HoS retains absolute authority within the Security department and can override the Security Dispatcher if necessary. The HoS continues to carry significant responsibilities, including defining officer roles, assignments, strategy, and overseeing their overall performance—crucial aspects of their leadership role. * Transforming the Security Dispatcher into an "Officer 2.0" role. The Dispatcher receives limited gear (1 Flash, 1 Handcuffs, 1 Disabler, 1 Pepperspray) and has restricted access compared to an Officer (cannot access baton), discouraging the role from being utilized as an upgraded version of an Officer. * Providing Security with a "personal AI" in the form of a Security Dispatcher. The Dispatcher lacks the ability to open/bolt doors, make announcements, call shuttles, or perform other functions that an AI can handle. Their role is strictly limited to watching cameras, sensors, and security records, offering only auxiliary support. ## What? The Security Dispatcher is a specialized Security role with a default allocation of only one slot. The Dispatcher is stationed in a designated room at the Brig, typically situated at the front door checkpoint. This room contains next essential items: * Sensors * Camera * Records * Holopad * Intercom Warden still retains all of those consoles, so non-goal 1 is not violated. All of those consoles are vital for the job of the Security Dispatcher, as they help them gather intel and coordinate Security even when telecommunications are down. The Security Dispatcher office is vulnerable on all maps, exposed either to the vacuum of space or adjacent hallways. This susceptibility increases the risk of antagonists successfully targeting and incapacitating the Dispatcher, leading to potential confusion within the Security team. The Dispatcher is equipped with the following items: * Unique uniform * HUD Sunglasses * Flash * Handcuffs * Disabler * Pepperspray * Clipboard * MOD-Link Scryer (enabling communication with MOD-suited personnel) * Station Bounced Radio * Laptop * Seclite * Screwdriver Their equipment is rather restricted to self-defense weapons, and their access to the locker room is also limited, so they can't acquire any more without asking for permission. This is done to ensure that non-goal 3 is not violated. Their job is to sit at the Brig and work as a Dispatcher, not to go catching criminals themselves. The primary responsibilities of the Security Dispatcher include: * Coordinating Security Officers in response to distress calls, incidents, and crime reports. * Keeping Security Officers informed about situations through camera feeds and suit sensors. * Facilitating communication among Security Officers and between departments (e.g., contacting Paramedics, Engineers, etc.). * Accepting crime reports from crew members. These responsibilities were previously secondary duties of the Warden, but they often get neglected due to the Warden being busier with their primary task of protecting the Brig and processing prisoners. The HoS is also occupied with preventing officers from turning into "Shitcurity," dealing with conflicts within the command, and directly involving themselves in all the fighting, making them too busy to be bothered. Consequently, this often neglected responsibility now has a dedicated job to ensure it is not overlooked when someone takes on the role. ## Alternatives * Opening a second Warden slot: This would allow one Warden to handle dispatcher tasks while the other manages primary duties of watching the Brig and processing prisoners. However, it may overcrowd the Warden office, typically designed for a single person. Additionally, doubling the Warden locker could lead to conflicts over unique gear allocation, such as Krav Maga gloves. * Creating a dedicated (possibly limited) AI to serve as the Security Dispatcher: This might be overpowered even with limitations, as an AI can quickly scan the entire station status within a few minutes. * Giving the HoS or every Officer their own means of gathering intel and coordination: Previous attempts, like quick-codes accessible with a button press, were denied due to concerns about making the game less social. Providing every Officer with the ability to watch cameras and sensors from any place on the station could be overpowered and eliminate the potential for antagonists to target the Dispatcher, disrupting Security's coordination. ## Potential Changes If the Security Dispatcher players will often assume the role of a Security Officer, their gear can be restricted even more. The HUD Sunglasses may be replaced with a standard HUD Visor, and their disabler could be removed, leaving them with only a flash, handcuffs, and pepperspray, which are less effective for apprehension and self-defense. In the event that the Security Dispatcher attempts to emulate a second Warden (though unlikely given their limited access), they can be changed to be a direct subordinate of the Warden. This arrangement discourages any overconfidence within the Brig. Furthermore, their Security Records console may be removed. If the role of a Security Dispatcher proves to be too challenging to navigate, particularly due to the perceived unpopularity of the Security Camera's interface among most players, an alternative option is to equip them with the Advanced Camera Console. This unique console would have only a single instance on the entire map at the Dispatch office, normal way to build one is only through Illegal Technologies research at R&D. This ensures that antagonists can destroy it with the understanding that it won't be reconstructed for longtime.
