# Bac Inc. Dev Hub Proposal `Bac Inc. Proposal for support to attent ETHGlobal New York Hackathon + Pragma, September 2023` ## Event Introduction [ETH New York](https://ethglobal.com/events/newyork2023) is a prominent Ethereum event scheduled to take place from September 21st to September 24th, 2023, in New York City. The event aims to unite developers from diverse regions and backgrounds to collaborate, innovate, and explore the limitless potential of decentralization. With a focus on nurturing the Ethereum community in North America, ETH New York serves as a crucial platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and showcasing the transformative power of blockchain technology. In addition to attending ETH New York, we plan to participate in [Pragma](https://ethglobal.com/events/pragma-newyork), an in-person summit hosted by ETHGlobal. Pragma offers a wealth of value in a single day and serves as a hub for top-tier presentations and discussions among pioneers and leaders in the Ethereum ecosystem. We intend to actively engage in networking and seek answers to our questions during our attendance. ## Organizers Introduction [Bac Inc.](https://near.social/mob.near/widget/MyPage?accountId=bac-inc.near) is a forward-thinking organization committed to promoting the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and fostering innovation in the tech industry. Our primary mission is to nurture and empower emerging developers, entrepreneurs, and tech enthusiasts. We focus specifically on supporting youth in Antigua and Barbuda to prepare projects for funding. We are dedicated to supporting youth tech entrepreneurs not only in Antigua and Barbuda but also across the wider Caribbean region. Our goal is to cultivate digital literacy, encourage entrepreneurship, and provide opportunities for local innovators to thrive. Furthermore, Bac Inc. is in the process of being formally established as a non-profit organization in Antigua and Barbuda. It serves as a sister organization to the [Marma J Foundation](https://marmaj.org/), already established as a non-profit in Ontario, Canada. This collaboration exemplifies our mutual commitment to education and community development. In partnership with the Technology Research and Development Club ([TRADC](https://github.com/UWI-TRADC)) at the University of the West Indies: Five Islands Campus, we aim to inspire the next generation of tech leaders and contribute to the growth of the tech ecosystem in the Caribbean. > For a tangible proof of concept, we direct the reader to our successful implementation of [Marma J Gaming on Near Social/BOS](https://marmajgaming.near.social). This serves as a testament to our technical capabilities and commitment to the NEAR ecosystem. ## Event Impact By sponsoring our interns to attend ETH New York, Bac Inc. aims to achieve a multifaceted impact, primarily focusing on the NEAR Protocol ecosystem. ETH New York, being one of the most well-organized hackathons in the Web3 space, serves as an invaluable platform for learning and networking. 1. **NEAR Protocol Engagement**: The primary objective is to deepen our interns' understanding of the NEAR Protocol's capabilities, benefits, and best practices. This aligns with Bac Inc.'s broader mission to contribute to the NEAR ecosystem. 2. **Ethereum Ecosystem Exposure**: While the event is Ethereum-focused, it will also provide our interns with a broader understanding of the Ethereum ecosystem. This will equip them with the knowledge and skills required to develop blockchain projects and businesses, and to apply Ethereum's best practices to our NEAR-focused projects. 3. **Regional Impact**: Upon their return, our interns will share their newfound knowledge with the broader Caribbean blockchain community. This aims to cultivate a culture of innovation and decentralized solutions in the region, with a specific focus on enriching the NEAR ecosystem. 4. **Developer Onboarding to Blockchain Operating System (BOS)**: In alignment with Dev Hub's mandate for developer onboarding and engagement, we aim to introduce Ethereum developers to the NEAR Protocol and BOS. Our focus will be on developers new to the blockchain ecosystem, engaging them through 1-on-1 conversations and small group discussions. We will use the shard.dog NFT system to track these interactions, thereby quantifying our onboarding efforts. - To do this, we will be showcasing [Marma J Gaming](marmaj.org/gaming) on [BOS](https://marmajgaming.near.social) as a way to highlight the basic possibilities of BOS. By leveraging ETHGlobal New York to advance our expertise in the NEAR Protocol, we ensure that our participation directly supports and enriches both the NEAR ecosystem and the tech community in the Caribbean. ## Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) #### NFT-Based Tracking with shard.dog - **System**: We will employ the [shard.dog](https://shard.dog/) NFT tracking system, currently in beta, for precise measurement and quantification of networking success. A dedicated shard.dog link, [shard.dog/bac-inc](https://shard.dog/bac-inc), will be used for this purpose. - **User Experience**: Those without a NEAR wallet will be guided to create one and claim the NFT, after which they will be redirected to the Bac Inc. BOS page. Existing NEAR wallet holders will skip the wallet creation step and proceed directly to claiming the NFT. - **Distribution Criteria**: An NFT will be distributed when a meaningful interaction occurs, such as in-depth discussions about potential collaborations, sharing of valuable insights, or establishment of future contact for project development. - **Post-Event Analysis**: After the event, the number of NFTs distributed will be tallied to evaluate the level of successful engagement against our target of 50 meaningful connections. #### Community Metrics - **NEAR Account Creation**: We aim for at least 20 new NEAR accounts to be created and actively used by TRADC members. - **DAO Membership**: Our target is to have 10 new members join the [Marmaj Research DAO](https://app.astrodao.com/dao/marmaj-research.sputnik-dao.near/groups/hackers) within one month of the event. ### Knowledge Acquisition and Sharing #### Focused Learning on NEAR Protocol - **Hackathon Project Submission**: The primary project will be the hackathon submission itself. We aim to submit projects for NEAR bounties and other integrative tasks, such as bridging BOS with Ethereum accounts or smart contracts from Polygon. - **Public Mentor Feedback**: The mentor (https://chloe.near.social) will provide public, on-chain feedback on the interns' code within BOS components. This establishes a transparent and continuous feedback loop. - **Financial Milestones**: Success will be measured by the number of bounties won and the total prize money earned from the hackathon. #### Content Creation and Documentation - **Blog Posts**: Each intern is required to write at least one blog post about their experience. The mentor will also write a blog post providing insights into leading the hackathon team. - **Daily BOS Updates**: Daily updates will be posted on BOS by both interns and the mentor to document the hackathon experience. #### Post-Event Contribution to TRADC - **Knowledge Transfer**: By sharing their insights and experiences, the interns will contribute to the knowledge pool of the TRADC community. - **Building on NEAR**: TRADC members who are interested in blockchain and Web3 technologies, including NEAR, will find the interns' experiences valuable. - **Participation in Hackathons**: The TRADC community may gain interest in participating in online NEAR-based hackathons or similar events. - **Club Expansion**: If the TRADC is planning to build projects in Web3 or on the NEAR blockchain in the future, the interns' experiences can provide valuable insights and potentially assist in setting up the club for success. ### Measurable Targets | Metric | Method of Tracking | Target | |--------|--------------------|--------| | NEAR Account Creation | Number of new NEAR accounts created and actively used by TRADC members | 20 new active accounts | | DAO Membership | Number of new hackers joining the Marmaj Research DAO | 10 new members in one month | | Content Creation | Number of blog posts, tutorials, code repositories created by interns and TRADC members | 5 quality blog posts, 2 tutorials | | Workshops and Seminars | Number of events organized and attendance | 2 workshops with at least 20 attendees each | ## Funding Request We kindly request a total funding of $5000 USDT, to be distributed to marmaj.sputnik-dao.near (then marmaj-research.sputnik-dao.near) which will be allocated as follows: | Budget Item | Amount | Description | | --- | --- | --- | | [Flights From Antigua to NYC x 4](https://www.google.com/travel/flights/booking?tfs=CBwQAhpsEgoyMDIzLTA5LTE5Ih8KA0FOVRIKMjAyMy0wOS0xORoDUE9TKgJCVzIDMjgxIh8KA1BPUxIKMjAyMy0wOS0yMBoDSkZLKgJCVzIDNTIwKAFqCwgDEgcvbS8wbDNocg0IAxIJL20vMDJfMjg2GmwSCjIwMjMtMDktMjUiHwoDSkZLEgoyMDIzLTA5LTI1GgNQT1MqAkJXMgM1MjEiHwoDUE9TEgoyMDIzLTA5LTI2GgNBTlUqAkJXMgMyODAoAWoNCAMSCS9tLzAyXzI4NnILCAMSBy9tLzBsM2hAAUABQAFAAUgBcAGCAQsI____________AZgBAQ&tfu=CnRDalJJUzFWRVl6bHJibHBDT1d0QlJGRlRWWGRDUnkwdExTMHRMUzB0TFMxMWFtWnRPVUZCUVVGQlIxUjJWR0pqUlhkaU5IZEJFZ3RDVnpVeU1YeENWekk0TUJvTENPcXNFeEFDR2dOVlUwUTRISERxckJNPRICCAEiAA&curr=USD) | $4000 | To cover the flight expenses for the four interns and their mentor, ensuring their safe and timely arrival at the event. | | Miscellaneous and Emergency Funds | $1000 ($250 per Intern) | Facilitate local transportation during the event.
