Journals build on Textile ThreadsDB (which provides logs with a layered encryption schema). For convenience we will label a collection of journals controlled by a single entity an identity, but note that this label is only visible to the entity. Journals are built on a permissioning system that is controlled by the end-users. This open protocol, User-Controlled Access Networks ("UCANs"), is designed to handle service authorization without a centralised backend. The design is led by Fission (see an intro [blog](https://fission.codes/blog/auth-without-backend/)). ## UCAN permission network ## Layers of encryption ### metadata not centrally aggregated ## service policy - ## social recovery ## n-groups --- # Avatars SAFE, L2 ## interface web|web3 --- # Circles
