Note ownership

Once you create a note, you are the owner.

If you create a team note in a team workspace, the team becomes the owner. Team notes do not belong to any individual member solely.

Tansfer ownership

You can click on "Tansfer ownership" to transfer the note's ownership to any workspace you're in.

Members within the team can also use the "Transfer ownership" button to transfer notes from one team to another team that you belong to.

If you are the owner of the note, you can set the note's open permissions through the Share menu in the top right corner of the navigation bar. This includes setting permissions for who can read and edit the note.

  1. When the note's "Read" permission is set to "everyone," the note may be indexed by search engines, so please be cautious.
  2. When the note's "Read" permission is set to "signed-in users" or "everyone," anyone who knows the note's URL can view it. To limit who can view it, please use the advanced permissions feature.

By default, the maximum number of editors for a note is 3. If you upgrade to the HackMD Prime Personal or Team plan, you can enjoy unlimited invitees!

The advanced permissions button is located below the note permissions menu. You can specify the editing or reading permissions for specific users.
Enter the registered email or username of the user to search for and add them to the advanced permissions.
You can set the permissions for invitees:

  • Admin: Can read and write, and invite other collaborators
  • Writable: Can edit this note
  • Readable: Can read this note

If the user did not get their email verified after registration, the user account cannot be found and the invitation cannot be accepted. Please ask the invitee to fill in their email in the Settings and confirm the verificatioon email.

Default note permissions are exclusive to the Prime plan.

You can set the default permissions when you create a note, either in your personal workspace or in your team workspace.

How to set default note permissions

Please go to [Settings > Note Settings] in your personal workspace or team workspace, and set the Edit, Read, Comment, and Suggest Edit settings respectively, and save the settings.

Caution

This setting will be applied to all notes in that workspace!
