# Folder

HackMD now has Folders for smarter note organization.

With Folders, you can group notes by project, category, or timeframe, all while keeping your workspace tidy and efficient.

Customize folders with icons and use batch actions to organize quickly.

Start using Folders and enjoy a better way to manage your notes. 🗂️

## Create folder
In the My Workspace / Team Workspace sidebar, click the **+ Folder** icon to create a new blank folder.

You can create up to 5 levels of folder structure, including creating new folders within a folder, or moving folders to another folder.

# What operations do the folders support?

New folders are displayed directly at the top of the Spatial Overview. Multiple selection, moving, renaming, iconizing and deleting are also supported.

## Rename folder
Open <i class="fa fa-ellipsis-h" aria-hidden="true"></i> **operation menu**. Then click 'Rename.'

## Change folder icon
Open <i class="fa fa-ellipsis-h" aria-hidden="true"></i> **operation menu**. Then click 'Change icon.'

## Move folder

### Option 1: Operation Menu

Open <i class="fa fa-ellipsis-h" aria-hidden="true"></i> **operation menu**. Select the folder you want to move. The same method can be used for moving notes.


### Option 2: Drag and drop

Drag and drop a folder or note directly into one of the folders in the left sidebar.

- You can create a new folder in the Move Folder window.
- If the folder being moved contains other notes or folders, these objects will be moved as well

## Delete folder

Open the <i class="fa fa-ellipsis-h" aria-hidden="true"></i> operation menu and click on

Deleted notes and folders will be temporarily stored in the trash and will be completely removed after 3 days. The Prime plan has a 30-day temporary storage period.
