# How to delete my account
When you delete your account, we will <font color="#f00">**permanently**</font> erase your personal data and any notes you possess.

## Steps
1. Open the settings interface in your personal space. At the bottom of the [General Settings section](https://hackmd.io/settings#general), you will find **the Delete Account** button.
2. If your account has **not** been verified via email, you must first undergo email verification to prove ownership of the account.

1. Enter your email address in **the Email field** under General Settings and click **Save**.
The system will send a verification email to your email address.
2. Click on the verification link within 24 hours to return to HackMD, completing the email address verification process.

If email verification has already been completed, you can directly click on the Delete Account button and proceed to next step.

5. The system will send a confirmation email for account deletion to you. Please click on the link provided in the email to return to the HackMD account deletion interface.
6. Enter your feedback and your verified email address on this interface. After completion, submit to finalize the account deletion request.

### Notes
- Please make sure to promptly back up important files:page_facing_up: , images:frame_with_picture: , or transfer note permissions before applying for deletion,
- Following the completion of the account deletion request, you will be logged out after a certain period.
- It takes a few days for the system to clear all data and content associated with your account.
During this waiting period, you can still view your notes through links or public note lists. :pray: Please wait patiently!
