Create note

In a workspace, you can click 【Create my note/Create team note】 to start a new note. By default, notes are created in the root directory of the workspace.

In the opened folder interface, click 【Create New Note】 to create a new note in the current folder.

Things about notes

Free Workspace

• Default word limitation of 100,000 words per note
• Single image uploads can be up to 1 MB in size

To increase some of the functionality limits, upgrade to the Personal or Team Prime plan, depending on your needs.

Share note

Sharing

Press the share button in the top right corner of the menu, then click the "Copy" button to copy the note URL to your clipboard. You can customize the URL yourself or use the system's default random code. If you want to customize a fixed URL for the note, please read How to Publish a Note with Permalink.

Note permission

Click the Share button in the top-right corner of the menu. After clicking, you will see a sharing menu, and only the owner of the note can change permissions.

• For the permissions of reading and editing the note, you can choose between: Owners, Signed-in users, Everyone.

• For the permission of commenting on the note, please first click the More features button in the sharing menu. You can then choose between: Forbidden, Owners, Signed-in users, Everyone.

You can also directly disable comments by clicking on the toggle in the top right corner of the comment options.

When you set the owners to be able to edit in a team, it means that anyone in that team can edit, not just the creator of the note.

Publishing

Make the note public on the public list of your HackMD account, so that everyone can search for this note.

Please be mindful of the content you publicly share and adhere to the HackMD community guidelines.

Sync and transfer

HackMD supports

Synchronizing a Note with GitHub. In the sync window, select the note version you want to synchronize, then click "Pull from GitHub" or "Push to GitHub".

In team notes, you can transfer ownership of notes to "other teams you're involved in" or to "members of the current team".

Note settings

The icon Note Settings allows you to edit the note title, note summary, set tags, and upload images for social sharing.

Export

We support exporting to Dropbox , Google Drive, Gist , or saving as .md files to your local machine.

Import

We support importing from Dropbox , Google Drive, and Gist in .md files , as well as importing from the clipboard. Additionally, notes can be converted to HTML format.
