Inputs from SDs for activities from the SDs are encouraged. If it happens, it will take place sometime in June or early Fall. - Collaboration with the UBC-Okanagan (UBC-O) to host PIMS and BIRS events: if it happens, it will be an opportunity to further develop CRG by expanding the scope and the length of the program, depending on the budget. - Attended the opening of the Innovation Hub, located @ SFU Surrey, where the QAI is located. - PIMS may have a chance to use the space in the coming years. **2. Update from Co-Director, Industry** **Industry Update** - Kristine will be soliciting industry partners for the next M2PI; - an announcement will be sent to each site from Carrie Ragan (UCalgary Administrator); asked the site directors to distribute it to math department @ PIMS each site. - First part of the M2PI WD report posted in SD Slack channel for reference and metrics info. CREATE Grant - Kristine will know by Feb 6 whether the grant proposal has gone through University of Calgary. - In case it does not go through UCalgary, Weiran Sun, Allen Herman and Brian Marcus agreed to look at the deadline of SFU, URegina and UBC, respectively. M2PI: a week-long program (in-person meeting for students to work in a team and to meet with employers) M2PQ: 3-day event/ in progress of inviting keynote speakers. planned for students to explore career opportunities in the Quantum sector. **PDF Update** - 10 candidates selected and offers went out. - AMS Deadline: February 6, 2023 - discussed the continued challenge of a shared candidate between 2 sponsors @ different university: i.e. half-time at UVic, half-time at SFU - PIMS plans to improve the communication and selection system for applicants with 2 sponsors, and to solve constraints of the current mathjobs website. - a change in the post-doc selection process: 2 documents were required for submission (a sponsor form and letters of recommendation) - Stephanie: include the total salary offer information - Kristine: other variables such as enhancement of experience (i.e. benefits of research programs and networking opportunities) other than just salary, should also be taken into consideration. - an updated PIMS post-doc competition info will be available to SDs for feedback before the next call. - Discussed the EDI supplement component of the competition. - Ozgur: NSERC is currently working on the standardization of EDI questions. *- Condition 1*: must be one of the EDI groups selected by StatsCan *- Condition 2*: must present a competing offer from other institutions. - SDs recommended that PIMS update the post-doc competition instruction with clearer information about the EDI supplementary funding (Particularly, clarify the EDI declaration process - who to contact first, and what information should be available to whom.) PIMS will seek advice from professionals who deal with such matters. **4. WDA update** No update to report. Anthony and Ozgur have meetings with WDA stakeholders scheduled for the following week. More reports will follow at the next meeting. **5. Education/Outreach** PIMS ERP/Callysto Call - Deadline: Feb 28, 2023 - SDs to circulate a reminder for the Call for Proposals. - Ozgur and Kristine streamlined the nomination guideline. - Main change: page limit (i.e. *a 3-5 page summary of major accomplishments of the nominee's work highlighting the impact of the nominee's work on the community*) & emphasis on "impact" (i.e. the award criteria focus on contributions at a broader level with an impact beyond the nominee's institutions) - Thomas: change "any additional letters from sponsors" to "any additional letters from up to 3 sponsors". - Anthony gave an update on the Pi in the Sky: he now has 6 articles available for publication, and has sent them to Ruth. Encouraged the site directors to contact Anthony if they have some mathematical images that can be used for the cover page of Pi in the Sky. - Kristine recommended Kate Stange, one of the PRIMA speakers https://math.katestange.net/. She has a number of mathematical images that are cover page worthy. - PIMS Education Award TOR/announcement: Please review in advance changes to the PIMS Education Outreach award call, incorporating a suggestion to introduce a (soft) page limit for nomination material.
