# Command Line Cafe Mission Statement CLI-Cafe's purpose is to cultivate a free, open, independent and self sustaining community dedicated to celebrating Linux's 30 year legacy. We will do this by establishing this server as a long lasting, self autonomous presence in the Linux scene. We won't succumb to decay or disinterest, and will be implementing internal policies in the form of publicly accessible documentation to achieve this. To not overcomplicate things, we will also be adopting Arch's "Keep it Simple" philosophy in both technology and community ethics. The goal of the community is to endeavour in collabration with other communities, and other various FOSS projects, foastering ethical stewardship across the broader Linux ecosystem. Collaboration however, does not mean we will act on any and all advice from outside parties, become subservient to a larger project, or that we will not remain independent with our own ethos. What works for some people won't work for others, and we will do our best to stay neutral and act in the interest of *this* community. In short, we want to create a resiliant, decentralized hub for Linux enthusiasts and Linux advocates to unite, innovate, educate and honor open source ideals without compromise. # Key Pillars ### 1. Autonomy & Independence CLI-Cafe will operate as a grass roots, word of mouth, non-monetized project free from institutional control, financial dependencies, or subordination to external entities. Keep in mind, this is a *unofficial* discord server, after all. This is not any of the old projects this server spawned from, it's a new, independent thing that will ideally stand on its own without outside influence. We will prioritize direct support for various Linux developers and charities we deem of high quality through direct donation links, while maintaining this communities best interest in mind with our governance and decision making. No money will pass through our hands, and our aim is not to become a charity or a non profit, our aim is to become a healthy and positive community oriented example for other FOSS projects to follow. --- ### 2. Advocacy & Bridge Building We will promote Linux's values of simplicity, transparency, and user centric design by engaging with and endeavouring to collaborate with other projects and communities in the linux space, on and outside of discord. Our aim is to further Linux as a whole, while excluding groups with a history of harmful acts and hateful rhetoric. This community is a free and open space, encouraging self expression, and any that disagree with that will either choose to not participate, or be barred from entry at staff discretion. Linux is made up of queers and furries and weirdos, and self expression is paramount. Telling people how they're allowed to express themselves is antithetical to everything this mission statement stands for. We will also facilitate cross platform dialog with bridging tools to matrix, revolt and IRC, if community managers at their respective spaces are interested. This may be difficult to implement at a moderation level, but the hope is that we can synergize and join forces together rather than being isolated disparate islands. --- ### 3. Community Driven Innovation CLI-Cafe will encourage the development of open source tools like Clang, the work in progress discord bot designed for the CLI-Cafe, and we will also encourage and host non-monetized initiatives like FOSS and art contests, to celebrate creativity and technical collaboration in the community. We will also encourage contributions to different Linux projects, creating space for new contributors, developers and artists to enter the scene with a strong sense of community, support, and mentorship. --- ### 4. Sustainability & Accountability We will establish publicly available internal documents and policies, a code of conduct more tuned to this new space, and transparent procedures to prevent corruption and abandonment from the staff. There will be a culture of accountability, inclusivity, and long term stability through proactive community moderation, collaboration, and leadership development We have seen what works and what doesn't work in other spaces, and we will be doing our best to learn from the mistakes of those that are still around and those that came before us with our staff teams collective experience in community management.
