--- tags: opportunities --- # Our Networks Proposal: Disorientations Archive-a-thon ## Description [Disorientations](https://disorientations.org) is an informal archive of 100+ disorientation publications by student activists, threading counter-narratives across institutions. These zines are vital examples of grassroots literature which subvert the glossy narratives put forth by universities. Though abundant, they are very disconnected — and like other activist ephemera, many don't make it online, are lost to time, or face deliberate erasure. In this in presentation and structured conversation, participants will learn about diso guides as a form of decentralized resistance, workshop metaphors of "disorientation" as they apply to our own contexts, and collaboratively imagine archival technologies attuned to activist publishing. <img width="1373" alt="Screenshot 2020-06-07 at 9 29 21 PM" src="https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/462020/83985148-065ede80-a906-11ea-9380-17513c9be7af.png"> **Type:** virtual workshop **Length:** 2 hours (20m presentation + 70m interactive workshop + 30m wrapup/discussion) **Date:** flexible! **Duration:** once (but could continue, for anyone interested) **Language:** English ## Objective - Contextualize diso guides as a form of decentralized resistance - Learn about setting up an informal archive using open source software, scrapers, spreadsheets, and elbow grease - Overview of entry points to zine librarianship and ethical archiving - Generate new ideas, approaches, and proposals for archiving activist materials ## Material and Technical Requirements **Platform:** videoconferencing w/ screensharing, chat (e.g. zulip), shared docs (e.g. hackmd) **Technical considerations:** Contributors would ideally pre-register, so accounts can be created on our website. **Additional considerations:** Captioning if any participants are deaf or hard of hearing.
