# Heroes Litepaper

The Heroes NFTs launched in February 2022 by [Deployer](https://twitter.com/0xdeployer). Inspired by Loot, Heroes provide on-chain traits and stats for anyone to use to build new and engaging experiences with. The Hero art is CC0, stored on IPFS, and referenced directly from the Heroes smart contract on the Ethereum blockchain. 3,333 Heroes were summoned. There are further plans to store the Hero art directly on the Ethereum blockchain instead of IPFS.

The Heroes launch was a stealth mint which was promoted only by one pseudonymous Twitter account run by a Wizard named Merlin the Blue. Merlin spoke of a prophecy that told of an abhorrent evil about to be unleashed on Earth. The Heroes were humankinds only hope.

The initial roadmap consisted of CC0 art and sprite sheets to be used in games and a free Ghoul mint for all Hero holders. Ghouls are the enemies of the Heroes. The Ghouls have not yet been minted.

## The first game experience

Deployer, founder of the Heroes project, had a vision for the Heroes and so took it upon himself to assemble a team and begin building an experience on top of Heroes that matched his vision of how he wanted Heroes to be used.

Heroes represents a new paradigm of creative, open world building. Where independent creators can build on top of open building blocks with an engaged community at their back. The core Heroes team is exemplifying this ethos in the first Heroes game experience call Merlin's Dungeons.

### Merlin's Dungeons

Merlin's Dungeons is a dungeon crawling game where you can play as your Hero and fight your way through various dungeons - slaying enemies, earning treasure, find loot, and collecting resources. The team is building a fun and engaging game that is enhanced by NFTs and blockchain.

The dungeon configurations are pulled from another on-chain building block project called [Crypts and Caverns](https://threepwave.com/cryptsandcaverns). Ther Heroes team took the on-chain dungeon maps and reskinned them for the Heroes universe. The game will include different aspects from different CC0, open projects. The team believes that this open ethos is what will change gaming for the better.

### Dungeon Events

Hero Dungeons are NFTs themselves! They are still currently minting and can be [minted here](https://www.heroes.fun/dungeons). Owning a Dungeon will allow you to stake that dungeon off-chain for a chance for your dungeon to be used in weekly dungeon events. A dungeon event consists of multiple dungeons being linked together and the community will play through the linked set of dungeons. If your dungeon is chosen for the event then you will receive a percentage of the gold found within that dungeon! Winners of dungeon events will receive rewards such as Hearts and rare loot items. You will also be able to play through your dungeon to collect resources and treasure.

The team has launched a successful pre-alpha build of the game to a subset of the Heroes community. Pre-alpha testers earned Merlin's Medallion that will be used in game at a later date.

## The Heart Token

The Heart token, an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, is the premium game currency of the Heroes ecosystem. Currently Hearts can be used to buy Heroes from the [Heroes marketplace](https://www.heroes.fun/listings) but will be used to buy premium items (NFTs) and gold to be used in Merlin's Dungeons.

## The Heroes Marketplace
