--- tags: notes, briefing --- # Notes: Genesis Brief 02 July 2021 8:00pm UTC ## Agenda Item 1: Round of introductions *18 attendees* Wide variety of perspectives, skillsets, and areas of focus: - data science - product - community/wellness - coordination - tech stack of coordination Common themes among the group: * passionate about DAOs * helping DAOs become more accessible to newcomers * giving DAOs more tools * "documentation is sorely lacking" * "question I'm getting: 'should we be a dao?'"" ## Agenda Item 2: What is the most important thing the DIA can do for our constituents? 1 - DAO Market Research Survey * ask DAOs about their challenges, what their communities want * everyone in DIA can share with their DAOs / clients / networks 2 - DAO Office Hours [n'th degree] * people can hop into DIA discord and ask questions 3 - Subscribable Channel of Curated DAO2DAO Intelligence [datsus] * a channel of subscribable content around our intelligence gathering * deemed 'safe' to disseminate (some sort of "vetting" consensus mechanism) - what's the definition of 'safe'? * one of the easiest services we can do * also, a curated list of DAO events * 'if it's something i want to use for my community, we should build it' 4 - Curated List of DAO Best Practices ("repo") - aggregating the resources and tools needed to launch a DAO and build community successfully ; including frameworks for organizing, gamifying and incentivizing your DAO community project in one handy repo - curation could be really valuable to help DAOs sort through the noise to find common best practices, things that work - inspiration: "Awesome Lists" on GitHub *Repo Topics could include:* - communication structures (discord/discourse) - community roles - styles of organization methods/structures (including seshbot for calendar) - operational tools - how to gamify / create fun / engagement - incentive structures - how collaborate/overcome challenges - how to onboard people (e.g. cohort model, ) - how to answer the question "Do I need a DAO?" - [see also cardo's proposal https://docs.google.com/document/d/19WHH1Rqiq8kKEo5XAG1jIIHyNvj3haXFn_2NXVQ9W5g/edit# and https://app.sli.do/event/ohzjtm96/live/ideas] 5 - DAO Case Studies - the how-to DAO handbook with a focus on case studies and taxonomy - would be great to include case studies / specific DAOs using these tools - need for categories / taxonomies / menu of options - don't homogenize - unsurfacing and curating information about how DAOs operate and then processing as a group (and sharing the lessons) - which is kind of what an intelligence agency does, DIA would be a bunch of “spies” amongst different communities which share intelligence about them and map things out into reports to be used by policymakers (which in this case are the people starting DAOs) ## Agenda Item 3: Structure / Roles for DIA Do we need a structure for contributors? Is there any separation in access? Write a manifesto. Draft mission vision values for DIA. We could create a lightweight internal currency - challenge: how do we allocate group attention? - signalling token for us to decide on which tool and project ideas are the most valuable for members - **Possible process:** - post project (internal job / bounty board) - see who else is interested / signal on task priority? (max two votes?) - inform who feels moved towards those projects - complete initiative - get some reward/rep tokens Security Task Force [Mythosthesia] - what is base level of access security required? - what do we need to protect, and how do we protect it? - what is shareable and is not to be shared? - how does one get access to 'core secrets' ;) Intention here is to create a public good - If you need to make money now, this is probably not the right phase of the project to work on DAO? - if so, how does one become a member? - Might be needed if/when we start collecting some grants to reward contributors Focus on one small thing, small win. Keep it simple. Then go from there. Don't forget the social part! Big value in just spending time together. *[Adjourned 9:02pm UTC]* ## Post-Meeting Synthesis **MVP** _external_ - one-pager w/ manifesto (mission, values, etc) - outbound channel for comms - inside discord, other discords can subscribe - twitter acct, tied to members signaling in the discord _internal_ - start handbook/documentation of how to contribute - setup some more coordination channels? maybe by initiative/working-group *possible bootstrap initatives* - security task force - outbound comms setup and methodology - prepare and distribute survey from greater community around - collect lots of raw data - synthesize, surface insights - distribute insights *forward* - when is the right time to build the DAO repo and DAO case study handbook? - start sorting through useful taxonomies/categorization of DAO intelligence - start defining what's 'safe' or 'shareable' or how to signal if something is not.
