# ACHDS R Hour
Thank you for joining the Aberdeen Centre for Health Data Science R Hour!
**What?** R Hour is an opportunity to practice and improve our coding skills together for one hour every week! This is a Markdown document where we can share notes - and at the same time practice using Markdown, which is [useful for making reports in R](https://rmarkdown.rstudio.com/). Click the pencil at the top to edit the document!
**Who?** If you are interested in R or coding-related topics, no matter whether you are an expert coder or a complete beginner, you are welcome to join this meetup.
**When?** Wednesdays, noon - 1pm
**Where?** Join using this [link](https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_NDQwYWNjMzgtYzhiMy00NDBhLWJjYjUtNjcxYTIzYTQ0NmJj%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%228c2b19ad-5f9c-49d4-9077-3ec3cfc52b3f%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%225319bb70-f8c5-4ea1-b19d-d1acd60b52f1%22%7d)
Please note: We are not having in-person meetings in Polwarth 1:173 at the moment, because of social distancing.
***All questions, comments and recommendations are welcome!***

* [name=Dimitra] I had a paper accepted this week! :sunglasses:
### What will you be working on today?
*Do you have a particular project in mind? Will you be practicing with a certain tool, working through one of the [R for Data Science](https://r4ds.had.co.nz/) book chapters, or exploring a [Tidy Tuesday](https://github.com/rfordatascience/tidytuesday/blob/master/README.md) dataset? Do you need help with a bit of code or would like to discuss a topic? It's entirely up to you!*
* [name=Dimitra] I'm going to look into [Tidy Tuesday](https://github.com/rfordatascience/tidytuesday/blob/master/README.md) to see what that's all about...
### Notes and questions
* Discussed [cowplot](https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/cowplot/vignettes/introduction.html), an add-on to ggplot
* Also: interactive visualisations for the web with [plotly and shiny](https://plotly-r.com/)

### Conversation Starters
*Advertise and promote your event, let us know about a recent success or failure (yes, those too!), or anything exciting you're working on.* ✨
* [name=Dimitra] We are starting an [Aberdeen branch of One Healthtech](https://www.onehealthtech.com/aberdeen), which is an organisation that aims to promote diversity in health technology. If this sounds interesting, please let me know, we are looking for people to join our organising team :smiley:
* [name=SarahJane] Definitely!
Do you need help with a bit of code or would like to discuss a topic (see breakout rooms below)? It's entirely up to you!*
* [name=Dimitra] I'm here to help, but if no one needs help, I will be working on a graph for a paper (and practicing with ggplot2).
* [name=SarahJane] Histograms (hopefully!) for a project I've been working on.
### Notes and questions
* Tutorial for GIS in R: https://www.jessesadler.com/post/gis-with-r-intro/
* [name=SarahJane] To discuss next time: handling data import errors (notes to follow)
### Feedback at the end of the call
* [name=Dimitra] Feedback from the middle of the call actually: let's also meet in person (for the people who are local to ACDHS) - I'll book Polwarth 1:162 for next time! (*Update: now booked!*)
* [name=SarahJane] This is a great way to set aside time for working on R (and less time-consuming than looking up all the answers individually). Look forward to seeing you next week!
* * Thanks SarahJane :smile:
Mohsen: Hello As Lyn mentioned in the learn and lunche meetiong. I found three packages that you can use R as a meny based software like SPSS, STATA. They are 1-Rcmdr 2-Rattle 3-deducer. however it seems there is problem for using "deducer".
