Notes: Year in Review (12/16/2021) Join us for 🎉 Haus Party Live 🎉 every Thursday at 2pm EST on the [DAOhaus Discord](https://discord.gg/daohaus) ## Notes From the Livestream 🎉 > Initial notes shared after Haus Party LIVE! but will be updated afterward with more references and resources. **Topics** - Haus Party Season Finale! - [DAOhaus Year in Review](https://daohaus.club/review/) **Hosts & Guests** - Felipe, dekanbro, Vanilladelphia.eth, vengist - DAOhaus community folks --- 🌱 Welcome to our metaphorical garden! 🌱 ## DAOhaus Year in Review - Whole community and identity has been growing over the past year - This is a nice validation that running a flat org works! - Opened, but permissioned community and group of builders - Much easier to have a flat org when you don't leave it fully open - Folks conflate open/flat with permissionless - https://www.citizenshandbook.org/structurelessness.html - Over past year, we've been able to stay permissioned and protected while also growing community and team without becoming exclusive - We're iterating and evolving - Dekan: Just came out of Raid Guild meeting -- Dekan, Ven, Sam were original leaders in Raid Guild but have stepped away to become more involved in DAOhaus - But folks have run with it and made many improvemnts (especially with public goods, onboarding, and cohorts) - This is another example of a flat org -- anyone can step up and be a leader, it just requires initiative ## Moloch DAO Upgrade - The *original* MolochDAO - Upgraded to new version of Moloch and have been in a process of evolution and are kicking off many initiatives - TravisWyche pushing things forward into 2022 ## Looking Forward About DAO Structures - May see DAOs becoming *smaller* and *fractalizing* instead of becoming *larger* - "Becoming a mesh network of smaller DAOs connected via DAO-to-DAO work" - We may see coin voting go wrong in the next year, which could existentially impact the associated DAO - What is a disaster? For whom? Could we see a DAO takeover through a potential 51% attack - Could we see a multisig governance failure with a core team rugging? - **BorrowLucid** Question: If DAOs become smaller and networked, how important is specialization? - DAOs can be many things and can spin up for a single specific purpose, but can also be larger like a service DAO that fits into a mesh network - Service DAOs can act as the "glue" in these networks - What is a DAO? What's the definining characteristic? What are DINOs (DAOs in Name Only)? - Part of what's great about DAOs and web3 DAO-like communities is that there is no one structure and no single template - Relative to existing corporations and definitions of communities the variety in DAOs is much greater - We're in new territory and will take time for us to collectively learn (especially to the question of "What is a DAO?") - DAOs being/becoming smaller is another paradigm shift -- smaller groups and tribalism often seen as a bad thing (which is why we have large systems of government or organization structures), but perhaps through DAOs and associated technology we can go back to our roots and make it work - Return of local meetups? - Local meetups have been a highly impactful onboarding experience and hopefully we'll see more again in 2022 ## DAOhaus Predictions in 2022 - DAOhaus creating the tools for folks to more safely incubate DAOs outside of coin voting - Hope to see more folks outside DAOhaus community see the value and flexibility of Moloch DAOs - xDai becoming the DAO chain - Sidechains will become much more important in the coming year - Regulalators also likely going to be more involved in the space - Potential for Lobby DAOs that focus on education? - We've seen how NFTs, DAOs, and other ecosystem elements play out over the past year and capture mainstream interest - Leads to more excitement but also fear of the unknown (solved by education over time) - Optimistic take: we can go further faster -- decentralized network that will keep innovating permissionlessly and this will continue - Entire DAO space will grow in *value to humanity* ### Radical Exchange and Radical Markets - [Radical Exchange Conference in Denver](https://www.radicalxchange.org/2021-conference/denver/) - [Radical Markets](https://press.princeton.edu/books/hardcover/9780691177502/radical-markets) ## Service DAOs - [Raid Guild](https://www.raidguild.org/) and [YAP DAO](https://www.yapdao.xyz/) - Isaac: [Minty](https://minty.xyz/explore/whiskeypioneers) and WhiskeyDAO - Buy a warehouse of bourbon as a DAO and have a DAO marketing and brand - Experimenting with physical assets in DAOs - For many folks this was their first experience, and are now being onboarded into web3 ### Felipe's Year - The DAOist launched this year!
