Notes S3Ep5 (9/30/21) Join us for 🎉 Haus Party Live 🎉 every Thursday at 2pm EST on the [DAOhaus Discord](https://discord.gg/daohaus) ## Notes From the [Livestream](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1094741535) 🎉 [YouTube Link](https://youtu.be/xHtQvn0YYUw) > > **Topics** - Travis Wyche aka Travis the Beard - [https://medium.com/@traviswyche](https://medium.com/@traviswyche) **Hosts & Guests** - Felipe Duarte, dekanbro, Vanilladelphia.eth, vengist - Travis Wyche aka Travis the Beard --- 🌱 Welcome to our metaphorical garden! 🌱 ## Introduction - Travis has been given the "the Beard" moniker - Travis is joining from an Earth Ship - A "self-imposed residency to get some dirt under fingernails" and "figure out how to live in a more sustainable way" - Recently spoke at MCON - MolochDAO member are is one of 2.5 contributors to *The REally Boring Guild* which is the ops Guild for MolochDAO - Going through a "cultural renaissance" - Falling into the web3 rabbit hole each day ## Updates (DAOhaus Universe) - ## Death Guild - Has received a MolochDAO grant for a project called *Death Guild* - *Death Guild* is a series of dialogues and debates (in the style of ancient philosophical dialogues) - Possible call for contributors! - Before being on any Discord servers, was being onboarded by Stellar Magnet — this allowed time and space for grappling with some of the problematic aspects of governance and treasury management - Took next step to contribute to MolochDAO via helping articulate the Grants Pipeline and Membrership policies into the docs - Began contributing as a writer and researcher - Left a PhD program to jump into DAOs — looking from a philosophical history lens and noticed that there are questions not being asked and perspectrives not represented in the space - Began research project to address these perspectives - UX/UI researcher looking from outside the tech sphere - Proposal for Death Guild "begins and ends with ruminations on the core topics...of DAOs" - Governance modalities — open source archive for exploring modalities - What does it mean for people to coordinate? What does this look like for scaling? - Treasury management — as an "anarcho punk" dislikes thinking about money, but this is a good opprotunity to shift toward thinking in terms of *resource management* - Can we think in terms of UBi and redistribution of wealth to create element of collaboration between disparate groups - Economic and environmental sustainability - Privacy — fulcrum with a balance between individual sovereingty and anonymity - Change identity at will - Not feeling the need to be anon is a privilege, and this is a problematic idea that deserves a deep dive unto itself ### As a resource and money manager who dislikes money, is this an ideal place to be? - Travis isn't a treasury, resource, or money manager. Not framing in this way - Identifying in this space as a *Scribe* to use Raid Guild terminology - Crafting the lore and mythology crafting and the articulation of the philosophies that drive the space - Aligned with non-tech and non-DAO communities and making sure that active contributors are recognized for the values they bring - They less easy to quantify and create metrics, the more exciting to put positive focus on "cultural, community value generators" - Role is to try to find locations for inserting value generation - Still figuring out a lot of tokenomic mechanisms - Can move away from potential hoarding nature of human beings and the "materialistic and fetishistic" relationship to money - DAOs facilitate the opening of the aquafirs to allow the value to flow and remain dynamic and circulate - Create a "collective water tower of resources and open the faucet together" - *gm* is cute but underwhelming — we are at a level of "tribe formation" that feels like the times of IRC in the early days of the Internet - Maybe we should have never left the early Internet - Some of the initial goals of the early Internet and what folks were trying to build is an open space to share information globally and it turned into a data harvesting system driven by big-data advertising - Early Internet meant as a coordination tool that was turned into a tool of control by those with power - MCON talk poised to ask the questions "What is it we are organizing for?" "What is it that we are optimizing for?" - Folks asking what is meant by this - Making sure that we're not repeating the mistakes of the past (early Internet is a more recent example, but this pattern has played out throughout human history) - Banners of humanism and altruism and egalitarianism and this then becomes a weapon used against others as a method of suppression - Since MCON, lots of conversation about how the DAO ecosystem is becoming increasingly fractalized and there is talk about the "emergence of communities" as organisms - This may be a harmful metaphor for DAOs — DAOs aren't literally natural, these are systematic and mechanistic systems - Human progress optimizes for efficiency and efficiency is fragile and anti-natural — it removes redundancies — natural systems have redundancies that create anti-fragility - This *should* be the type of system we design, but claiming that our current system is at this state, it may be disingenuie - Are we not asking acute enough questions? - Are we not probing deeply enough? - Cells collaborate for the greater good of the organism, not the greater good of the cell itself but we're not there yet - What is the system that is being optimized for? We antropomorphize the world — we have superimposed our own values and structures in other parts of the world - Due to Cartesianism we tend to think that this is all *for us* — but we're "meatsack water balloons" - Human delusion is to think that we're individuated as a species instead of being in service in our gut bacteria - When this expands outward and scales, we're taking all the world's resources and putting into industrial processes - Is this repeating colonialism? - Is there a question of agency in all of this? - Octavia Butler — writing a series about [Earthseed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthseed) - It's interesting to think through these questions - Everything is layered protocols programmatically and robotically running their own style of existence - When it works less, there is an adaptation mechanic that triggers - Nothingness → somethingness - Requires a form of "existential agility" to move and adapt - If we *choose* to see the whole world through Game Theory and as a mechanistically informed optics — if we choose to accept that we're in a game that is "rivalrous and competitive" — if we choose to look through this lens this is the primary delusion - Learned to understand this as a "problem of imagination" — problem of coordination more than a game and social coordination — not reducable to economic and political coordination - eye-hand coordination — how to act with integrity and dignity - Resolve and remove primary delusion that we are rivalrous - Get to point where we're not designing games for each other - Borges, Calvino, Baurdillard - Discord is an example of a *simulation* - We'll never escape the library itself — we create "fortresses of alienation" - The largest, most meta design problem of all — there is no one better suited to handle this design problem than the folks in the DAO ecosystem and community - "Lost all hope for true precision of langauge and only enjoy it for its poetic possibilities" - Felipe chose the poet route over the philosopher route - Philosopher burdened with building tight ship with wet towels, poet can take off clothes and swim - Ungrateful toil to use language with precision - Understand coding — it is language that holds water - Language is more utilitarian — operating system of consciousness - We're more complex than computers, so let's not reduce it - Language is the "primitive emergent technology of consciousness" and without language we wouldn't be able to "track and archive" our thoughts and couldn't learn and disperse information - Language keeps us entrenched within our delusion but gives us hope to escape our delusions - Admit the fault of the things we love the most - Magic is used as a term too — "magic of coordination" — acuity of minds at the code and infrastructure level that are a parallel to magic - Language is magic — we are concocting and summoning to the present — impose a layer on reality that is imaginative - Absolutely fundamental - Inability to create properly with one another to communicate what we know — "telepathy is the full blockchain version of conversation" - Blockchain can help build trust due to transparency — if we were telepathic we'd not ened to communicate. We'd coordinate *or not* - Experimenting with single serving coordination mechanisms ike FlashDAOs or BurnerDAOs - At end of show you'll be in a DAO, and can claim funds or stay in the DAO - This is an experiment! - Comes down to public trust — having telepathy and transparency has been something to be able to learn through DAOs and trustless mechanisms - True privilege is to live in a state of generosity and be *radically generous — these are the infinite gardens we're trying to create* - MolochDAO Renaissance — creating opportunities for new folks to come in - Integrating aspects of the MetaCartel ecosystem — if we want to go far, we *have* to go together, and to do that we need to slow down - ## Resources -
