Notes:S3Ep4 (9/23/2021) Join us for 🎉 Haus Party Live 🎉 every Thursday at 2pm EST on the [DAOhaus Discord](https://discord.gg/daohaus) **Topics** - [UMA Protocol](https://umaproject.org/) **Hosts & Guests** - Felipe Duarte, dekanbro, ven, Vanilladelphia.eth --- 🌱 Welcome to our metaphorical garden! 🌱 ## Introduction - FruityCup and Hagz48 from [UMA Protocol](https://umaproject.org/) ## Updates (DAOhaus Universe) - [MCON](https://www.mcon.fun/) was amazing! - PoolHaus: iRobot MetaFactory PoolHaus kicked off last week and raised 420 ETH in ~4 hours - PoolHaus mechanic is a way to collective manage a product's liquidity through a DAO and community - DAOhaus launched on Arbitrum last week! - If anyone has a community there, reach out to us since we'd love to have folks testing - Zodiac implementation - DAOhaus increasing our DX (Developer Experience) so that when Gnosis announced the Zodiac pattern we were able to implement right away in DAOhaus - DAOs can now become the controlling entity on a Minion Safe (all assets can be in a safe like before, but can also have weighted governance, permissions, etc.) - Gnosis modules can now be plugged into Moloch DAOs - Internally, we can now share a treasury between Warcamp DAO and our sub-DAO circle — workstreams can share treasuries - Warcamp can flow funds into a Minion Safe (controlled by the Paladin Circle) → flows into the circles - This allows for *Hub and Spoke* models → "Mesh network of the DAOverse" - Moloch v3 'Baal' - Battle testing contracts deployed on Mainnet - Moloch features as well as Comp style governance - 👹 Baal is coming 👹 ## UMA Protocol - Conversation started stemming from the dGov Hackathon to integrate Uma with DAOhaus - Generic proposal, but here to shill and see who is interested to explore the partnership - Uma community and Superumans are a cool example of flag org emergence ### Overview - What is Uma? - Universal Market Access — build several types of financial products and the goal is to get their products out in the world - Treasury diversification, community growth and incentives, other products to help folks in DAOs - - KPI Options and Range Tokens - KPI Options: - This is what started the *Superumans* community - Airdrop where the value is based on the performance and effort of a community - There are metrics that have a higher value when achieved and a lesser value when not achieved - FruityCup saw the Discord blowing up about this and asked to join the new Superuman group and was airdropped options and started earning - Was able to find ways each week to earn and be given opportunities without a tech background - "Fast food service during the day, talking DAOS at night." - Superumans are ambassadors to other DAOs by involvement, guidance, and assistance with any questions - Began building infrastructure — social media, content, and campaign teams that hold weekly meetings and are just focused on organizing - Came about in the last ~6 months! - Who was the first Superuman? - Superumans aren't part of the core team, they're an offshoot - Was it totally emergent from the KPI drop? - UTBL drop — option expired to ~7000 different wallets that expired after certain amount of TVL in 3 months time - Saw lots of dedicated folks in the community who wanted to actively work toward the KPI metric, and so UMA gave them a space and created the Superuman layer - Started setting up teams after the community growth - Current iteration of KPI option (uDAO) is to get integrations with other DAOs and protocols to use either KPI, Range Token, or Success Token - For each integration they get (up to 20) they get a certain amount of payout at end of 3 month period - One uDAO token is the KPI token - [https://medium.com/uma-project/umas-utvl-kpi-options-a-retrospective-and-the-next-launch-169473209335](https://medium.com/uma-project/umas-utvl-kpi-options-a-retrospective-and-the-next-launch-169473209335) - UMA governance has become sophisticated and grown - Range Tokens: ### Governance Lessons and Takeaways - Have some sort of leadership position from the start (they had a UMA team member who helped put things in place) - Moving away from TVL → having compensation and factors less dependent on the market → more resilience and protection from market dumps - uDAO allowed for shifting focus to folks who are helping UMA which increased productivity - People who were interested kept pushing forward - Rewarding and incentivizing folks showing initial initiative - What was the process of shepherding this initiative from the core team? - UMA is an options protocol and showcased by leading by example - Discussion about how to use options for KPIs — decided to use it for their *own* KPIs - Selected folks from the community who they knew would help community grow - Everyone is experimenting in DeFi and seeing what sticks and decided that TVL is a good general metric to start, and set it as a goal - Didn't set out to build the Superuman community — set out to raise the TVL and accidentally built an amazing community! - PFP drops are similar — seeing communities pop up and create value overnight - How to choose the correct metric? How to avoid things that can be gamed? - Is there any extra consideration due to this to avoid whales gaming things? - Need to make sure that metrics aren't gameable — need to make this difficult so that it's not worth anyone's time to do so ### UMA Oracles and Cross Chain Compatability - UMA Oracle runs on Mainnet, but can bridge to Polygon - Take messages from Polygon but get values on Mainnet - DAOs have landed on xDAI (especially service DAOs) — is xDAI something that's in the future? - If there is serious interest to build with their product, they can bridge to xDAI - DAOhaus is supporting xDAI, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Eth Mainnet - EVM compatibility is the most important part - Currently have Polygon deployed and others are lined up ## UMA Community - How did the team manage the community Discord when having thousands of pages of comments? - CarelessDoge (lead onboarder) — structured the Discord into multiple channels and each team has multiple channels (and voice channels) - Everyone has a place to talk and work and collaborate - Structured in a way to allow folks to focus on their skills and contributions - Teams have their own structure and autonomy - One of the issues we see in DAOhaus is that new folks are bombarded with lots of Discord channels and are unsure of where to start. How do you handle onboarding new community members? - *Becoming Superuman* channel → find descriptions about what it means to be a Superuman and steps on getting started, and then provides action items such as reaction-based role selection - Can guide through the process of becoming a Superuman - UMA has UMAVersity calls — CarelessDoge joined and had a great time, and then kept coming back to the Discord. Kept learning and giving back to the community and was then nominated to be *Lead Onboarding* - Superumans are folks with a variety of skillsets and backgrounds — KPI Options allows for tracking talent from different areas of the world and help folks see how their unique skills and talents provide value (as aligned with the UMA core team goals) - The acceptance and appreciation and rewarding of the non-technical side of DAOs is critical — there's a great technical foundation where non-technical folks can build on and add tremendous value - Great to see folks with a variety of backgrounds contributing value — the membrane now has more "breathability" - 2022 could be the year of DAOs! - Community people are the ones making things happen — the tech is the base but the community folks are what move things forward ## Audience Questions - Horizontal collaboration still nascent and difficult in the DAO space. What could KPI Options look like for DAOs of DAOs as far as helping them organize? - Potentially there could be a form that a new DAO fills out if they're interested in a KPI Option and they decide in how much funding they want and what the metrics could be - What would a group of 10 DAOs look like? How could they use KPI Options to collaborate and align interests across the ecosystem? - Gnosis has been looking at this, but it's complicated due to the KPI problems as well as Goodhart's Law - Incentive alignment problem - UberHaus and DAOhaus product ecosystem: UberHaus path going toward being an accelerator — Multiple DAOs with different roles that are part of a track (going from 0 to funded in a seed round) - DAOs with different roles that are actually closely tied together — can have a small DAO starting that has ideas for products (or has a product) — could come to UberHaus and get a small grant to pay for a consultation from Raid Guild (web3 developer service DAO) → solidify a spec to get vetting and feedback → go to MetaCartel to propose for a grant for building the MVP → go back to another dev DAO to build the MVP → introduced to a venture DAO in the system such as MetaCartel Ventures → seed round investment - Working with multiple DAOs across the space in the "Federation of DAOs" → What are the KPIs in this ecosystem process? - KPI DAOs for multiple DAOs — could there be some sort of index? Interesting idea, but UMA doesn't have the bandwidth to lead this initiative at the moment - Horizontal communities — aligning on certain KPIs - (Travis's question — need specific wording) - Can create and use any type of metric with the KPIs (as long as it can be measured) - Need to think about the expiry date - Can use these to incentivize the community to work on the same goals - Example: How to incentivize community leaders. How could we reward community leaders with HAUS token if they meet specific engagement KPI? - Can set up the metric as long as it's objectively measurable and can be validated ## Resources -
