Notes S3Ep6 (10/7/21) Join us for 🎉 Haus Party Live 🎉 every Thursday at 2pm EST on the [DAOhaus Discord](https://discord.gg/daohaus) ## Notes From the Livestream 🎉 Check us out on [Twitch](https://www.twitch.tv/daohaus) > > **Topics** - **Hosts & Guests** - Felipe Duarte, dekanbro, Vanilladelphia.eth, vengist - David Phelps --- 🌱 Welcome to our metaphorical garden! 🌱 ## Introduction ## Updates from the DAOhaus Universe - Flash DAO experiment -- claiming the POAP puts you in a DAO, and then funds are dropped in and people react however they want! - Claim funds and rage quit, or let it ride and see what happens in the DAO - Internally, we've been working on our product DAO and our compensation model - Changing from retrospective to commitment based - Take crew we've built and make sure that folks are able to stay for the longe term, and that new folks had a route to sustainable pay and contribution ## David Phelps - Working on launching 2 DAOs and advising DAO ecosystem projects - Recently posted a thread exploring the pain points of DAOs - Loves the aspect of DAOs that feels like "we're all playing with Legos" and we're exploring composability of tools "in a sandbox" and feels like a game at times - At the same time, looking for long-term sustainability of ecosystem and projects -- asking "Are there new ways that we can align incentives between people that we've never been able to do before?" - Question is *how do we do this* - DAOs similar to bands, especially in early days: Incentive alignment is critical - Similar to bands that break down over time likely due to misalignment - *Note: Felipe only likes the Dire Straits and Rush* - **Eco / Artist DAO** - Artist collective to create NFTs that support ecology - Buying NFT is a ticket -> Look for this at NFT NYC - Goal to open up work to more collectors while also supporting charity - How can we get folks involved in this space? - Longer term, can potentially fund artist residencies? - **Investor DAO** - 20% is what venture funds usually take in profit (and 2% in management fees) - Moving toward an era where people want to invest their own money, and moving away from it being gated by needing to have lots of money - Want to be able to open this up to anyone who wants to contribute -- would get in with a token model to align incentives - Anyone investing keeping 100% of what they earn (not 20%) - People helping manage are paid in the tokens, and token price should go up - Founders can work with the DAO and with community and users who want to support their project - [MetaCartel Ventures](https://metacartel.xyz/) has been experimenting in this space ## Pain Points of DAOs - [12 Problems DAOs are Facing](https://twitter.com/divine_economy/status/1443257518428495878?s=21) - Going through core content of the tweet -- what are the hot topics from these pain points? - **Onboarding, Rewards, Alignment** - 80 person band not likely better than a 4 person band - Find ways nto bring the other folks in to participate in other ways but while also feeling like they're doing creative, important work that's in collaboration with the band - Answer isn't always bringing folks in, can be creating new DAOs and sub-DAOs (replicate the cells) - Thinking about how questions may be misframed (and ways that the framing is the issue) - In DAOs and open source, there is the idea of audience model or contributor model - Raid Guild does a mix where everyone can jump in, but all projects are raids where 3-7 people work and these parties become sub-DAOs - Everyone can jump in but all projects are Raids, which are similar to sub-DAOs or sub-circles - World of Warcraft and Original Runescape and other MMOs as metaphors for DAO work and cryptospace - Everything is a LARP and "We're all just LARPing" - Element in web3 that we are all performing, and things are a lot more fun when we believe we are LARPing ### Mercenary vs Missionary Problem - Mercenary are the biggest opportunities right now (Axie Infinity) - Are the players loyal? Do they just want to be paid to play? - Play to Earn and Learn to Earn onboard folks into Mercenary, but are we helping them become Missionary and be creative contributors to the space? - Are we unlocking the talent in the world to do great things? - How do we go from opportunity of onboarding to making missionaries? - We see this in DAOs as well when we offer airdrops and incentive models -- "Solved acquisition but not retention" - How do we help folks contribute to protocols/DAOs/communities that they care about? - What will happen to Axie over time? - Missionary-first model is beneficial to the long term, but a potential risk is that you don't have the structure to bring in new folks and grow beyond the core Missionary contributors - Are we making Mercenary folks do meaningful work? - Missionary folks are often able to have the resources and funds to be able to contribute without needing to immediately worry about funds - How do you switch from one to the other? What is the ideal "sales funnel" - Does the community stay together after a coin price drops? -
