# Draft: Poster Article
DAOs become frustrating when they feel like just pushing buttons to vote and move tokens around. Without context behind these actions the importance of decisions can be lost. ~~This can be especially disorienting for people new to the space. Working from the inside we get a sense of the deeper significance and compelling potential of these tools.~~ We want to encourage communities to deeply engage in the formation of their collective values and demonstrate these principles in their documents and graphics.
Building on decentralized protocols protects against cultural capture. The images and words used to share our ideas need protections too. Communities should be able to speak freely and to etch their vision into stone so others can align behind it. They also need to retain the resilience to change their mind and ratify updated documents when they choose.
~~With centralized asset management, non-DAO members can go in and update what the DAO has to say, giving them undue power over the organization. Giving DAOs a voice and preserving their autonomy is extremely important.~~
[Poster](https://github.com/onPoster/contract) is a contract deployed by Auryn at Gnosis. The original idea was creating a [decentralized social network](https://poster-app.on.fleek.co/).

The Poster has one function: you submit data and the contract posts it. One of the benefits is having access to this data without clogging up the chain. It doesn't have state. Poster creates events that are read from the subgraph. Instead of pulling a multitude of files from IPFS, Poster loads it all in one query. These technical benefits are a result of the contract's extreme simplicity.
**So how did Poster become integrated into the DAOhaus platform?**
What people are saying and how they arrive at conclusions matters. We recognized these softer juicy parts were missing from the DAOhaus proposal process. Providing this context is a problem we have been hoping to solve. Poster allows us to provide meaning behind our governance features.
Hooking Poster up to a minion enables voting on the messages. A DAOhaus DAO can now produce a series of collectively drafted and ratified documents and determine what information is displayed within the interface.
~~We can hook it up to a minion (a basic upgrade to your DAO proposals, enabling one-time interactions with other smart contracts once your proposals are passed)~~
This became particularly conspicuous during the recent articulation of our [DAOhaus Manifesto](https://daohaus.mirror.xyz/0NEWxKEKAhR2lDpSaG9aTPTv0Xwo1uynTetajbvurnw). We required a quick solution that could handle the ratification of our document on-chain. This document articulates the identity of our community and how we represent ourselves internally and to the larger ecosystem. The manifesto is an ideological document representing our core values and principles, a keystone of culture and governance. We knew it was important to integrate this text into our interface while ensuring that other DAOs could do the same.
## Other Possible Uses
Many communities currently use Discourse forums for discussion prior to submitting on-chain proposals. Imagine removing the additional steps of writing the post and moving directly to voting/ratifying the content of those documents. Folding in the cultural context and human debate into governance makes the decision more purposefull and puts cultural weight behind our decisions. For people that are not members of the DAO, the Poster proposals allow a higher-fidelity glimpse of what the DAO stands for, how they debate, and how they decide.
Another potent use case for the Poster contract is the potential for a DAO-native publishing platform. A DAO can collect a suite of documents and decide which should be shared in relation to how members vote on them. Published articles can be queried through different filters once they are live. This could lead to decentralized versions of traditional news and blogs, or more experimental publication outlets, ratified by members. Writers, editors, and reviewers can decide their governance mechanism and debate what is legitimate or not according to their community. Whether for entertainment purposes or scientific publications DAOs might become the decentralized journals of the future. ~~There's a lot of power to align a community behind a publication and knowing where that community stands on particular issues.~~
Centralized science is broken. The peer review process is riddled with bias. Decentralization in science is becoming more important than ever, yet the scientific community is just starting to get their feet wet with Web3 tools. Approaching an approximation of objective truth on a societal scale requires better tools, but that doesn't mean they need to be complex or inaccessible to the community. Ratifying our journals on-chain lets us take one step closer to breaking up this scientific authority to distribute the power of truth-making among the people, redirecting that power away from special interest groups that might not have our collective wellfare in mind. We need to keep pursuing these difficult ideas as a community.
Consider a database application putting arbitrary data on-chain as a collective content management system. This could be raw data or links to other data sources as a way for a DAO to store its own content while adding governance to how it is managed. That content can extend well beyond Markdown text. Conceptualize publishing pre-NFT DAO intellectual property before the information is released to the market.
Imagine appplying this content management system to lorecraft and collective decision making. Picture directing the narrative of meme-driven development and DAO marketing through voting mechanisms. Rather than an individual or team designing and stewarding the organization's identity, Poster's integration with DAOhaus infrastructure allows the lore to evolve in real time, synchronized with the continuous proposal stream of the DAO. The narrative can remain dynamic as members come and go and the culture of the DAO evolves with the shifting tides of it's members, with far less latency or friction than traditional centralized schemas.
We have just started scratching the surface of potential use cases. Poster is now available as a Boost for all v2 DAOs on the DAOhaus platform. You can start exploring these possibilities right away!
