# Haus Party Live: What Do We Track and Why?
April 7, 2022
*An outline compiled from [these rough notes](https://hackmd.io/@daohaus/By7a5Kd75), [this coarse outline](https://hackmd.io/@daohaus/B1NlP52Q9), and this [high-level sketch of the contributor flow](https://hackmd.io/@daohaus/SJawc-lWq). ## Towards Defining HPL Metrics
Do we know what we mean when we say *engagement, onboarding, value?* How might we be more explicit and intentional with the community that forms around HPL?
::: spoiler **What behaviors do we want to encourage with Haus Party?** *Please add to this list!*
- Engagement:
- Returning to the next Haus Party
- Getting on stage to talk
- Chatting on Discord
- Sharing on Twitter
- Crafting memes based on episode content
- Voting to rank episode content
- Bounties:
- Writing a response post with key takeaways or alternative ideas.
- Taking initiative to moderate the community.
- Researching the ideas to articulate more threads, define references, suggest new topics.
- Exploring onboarding to WarCamp.
- Knowledge:
- Interacting with DH DAOs.
- Learning about moloch contracts, lore, community, etc., and how it differs from other DAOs.
- Applying new and unanticipated references to Web3-DAO concepts.
:::
::: spoiler **How might we incentivize these behaviors?** *Please add to this list!*
- HAUS token! What kinds of utility can we design?
- Granting specialized access to content.
- Members-only privileges to the DH Discord server.
- A new role: DAOhaus ambassadors/evangelists?
- Governance/voting on topics or seasonal directions.
- Special non-fungible HPL token that are redeemable for "prizes."
- NFTs or special POAPs.
- Physical editions: merch.
- Let's get creative!
:::
::: spoiler **How might we move towards a Web3-DAO-native system for tracking more relevant metrics?**
- How might we track these metrics using analytics coded into our primitives/legos?
- How does our ability to track the quality/quantity of engagement shift in relation to Web3?
- How might we experiment/implement a system that *tracks* engagement while also *increasing* engagement in a way that also maximizes fun for the particpants and researchers?
- Let's define scenarios into a WarGame template! (detailed notes on this coming soon)
:::
::: spoiler **Overcoming Conflicting Internal Motivations**
Current idea (of TW) is to throw out as many threads as possible to provide as many choices as possible.
Ven has noted that good design amounts to limiting choice to avoid choice paralysis. Calls for a single, narrow question.
- How might the complexity of the topic be maintained without instilling choice paralysis?
- How might the community be mobilized and incentivized to track, archive, and contribute to the threads before or after the HPL event?
- How might we encourage the community to moderate itself? To strengthen the feedback from the DH community to WC?
- What is the sweet spot of simplicity and complexity we are trying to maintain?
- What are the specific vibes we want to foster?
- What is the specific lore we want to craft?
- **Provisional Answer to Consider:**
- OpenHaus = pragmatic, tutorial, onboarding to the product
- Haus Party Live = deep lore, throwing out lots of dots, swimming around in the dots. Incentivies ongoing research.
- DAOhaus Diaries = deep vibes, culture building that has fun with the ideas without trying to explain them. No pressure on users to do anything except hang and have fun.

## Analyzing the HPL Stack to Come
We are considering other platforms, but what are the pros/cons of these alternatives? How might we generate evidence to justify the decision?
### Method
::: spoiler **Competitive analysis of different broadcasting tools**
1. Based on what assumptions about metrics? Defined above.
2. Defining explicit KPIs/OKRs will define what we track.
3. *Who we are tracking* remains unclear. We must avoid acting upon assumptions. Hence, towards defining **HPL user personnas** for the various platforms:
- Discord: work or pleasure?
- Twitch: gamer centric, watch parties
- Twitter: deep vibes, degen crypto, what else?
- YouTube Live: archival emphasis
- Facebook Live (we draw the line here?)
- Livestream (antiquated?)
- Partnership with [Livepeer!](https://livepeer.org/)
- [Lens Protocol?](https://lens.dev/)
- [Jitsi?](https://jitsi.org/blog/live-streaming-with-jitsi-and-youtube/)
:::
::: spoiler **Competitive analysis of qualities of engagement**
1. Analyze internal assumptions about general onboarding.
- Are we onboarding everyone? Does HPL serve as a meme-gated vetting mechanism?
- Reference episode of scale/growth. What are pros/cons for our own needs? Signal to noise ratio.
- Decide what other Web3 strategies we might want to emulate:
- Bankless
- Decrypt
- Mirror featured publications
2. Define the *quality* of engagement in relation to the *quantity* of engagement.
- How might we avoid engagement mining, POAP farming, and other degen behaviors of cultural capture?
- Are attendance and retention meaningful metrics here? In relation to what else?
- Decide what other tools we might want to use to track:
- Discord bot moderators
- Collab.Land
- Govrn
- SourceCred
- ???
:::
::: spoiler 🏟 **Using a DAO as an Analytics Schema**
*Like WarGames, but not a WarGame (yet!). Modeled off of the **How to DAO** course: bounties lead folx step by step towards a more detailed understanding of moloch-style DAOs and the unique offerings of the DH framework.*
1. POAPs are distributed to audience members during HPL.
2. The POAP recipient addresses are co-summoned into a DAO.
3. DAO code integrates Dune analytics or other Web3-native analytics to track certain behaviors, TBD, such as:
- Return visits to Haus Party: tracking POAPs in individual wallets
- Interacting with the DH DAO UI through specific proposals, votes, etc.
- The HPL DAO serves as a PoW platform for participants to spin off their own sub-DAOs?
4. DAO analytics will be cross-correlated to stats from other social platforms. Currently this means Discord, Twitch, and Medium. We will begin experimenting with Twitter, YouTube, and Mirror.
- Immediate goals:
- Discord server boost (via retention) = increases discovery
- Twitch account boost (via consistent attention) = increases discovery
- Other stats:
- Medium: views (by traffic source), reading time
- Mirror: besdies Web3 cred, what does it really offer us? Lacks analytics. NFT minting feels like Patreon - not very useful for our purposes.

::: spoiler 📚 **HPL as a Web3-DAO-native Publishing Platform**
- The quality of the content is increasing.
- Becoming more than notes (as a document of an event), towards substantial stand-alone content.
- The text represents the collective voices of DH. A unified front and clear lore.
- Published articles should be indexed. Options include:
- A unique website
- Mirror publication: to become a featured contributor with Mirror.xyz?
- Using DAO tooling - like the Poster contract - to archive on-chain in a DAO-centric way.
- Printed matter:
- Collaboration with MetaFactory or others.
- Becomes a funnel for IRL/meatspace events.
- Rebooting the analog meme machine idea from Denver Feb 2022. A visual art opportunity for the designers et al to collab on a unified vision.
1. Instead of notetakers, events are transcribed to increase the fidelity of the blog output.
- Low lift: at blog editing phase, shift individual voices to collective "we" tense so the content represents the autonomous/anonymous voices of the community.
2. Transcribed articles are edited and polished, [like this one.](https://medium.com/daohaus-club/haus-party-live-challenging-dualities-in-a-world-of-plurality-ed99497fe716)
3. Articles is published (TBD which platform). Articles are indexed (TBD what method).
4. At the end of the season, articles are formatted for print. Lay out incorporates new art. Book is minted as an NFT.
5. Distribution TBD. For example:
- For HPL DAO members to purchase first
- For HPL DAO members to win if they have enough "participation points"
- For HPL POAP holders that have attended every episode
- Exclusively through a MF drop with token-gated access via the HPL DAO
- etc etc. Fill in market strategy here.
