## Notes from the UberHaus Universe
- Processing what's happened over the last year as a community and looking toward what we want to do in v3 moving into 2022
- Keep absorbing knowledge from our experiments and usecases
- PoolHAUS is wrapping up
## PadawanDAO
- What does it mean to be a Padawan?
- Started with Ric Burton's initiative to send youth to events
- Getting youth to conferences to introduce them to Eth ecosystem (first event was Eth Lisbon)
- Before the actual initiative, he tweeted that he was looking for folks who are under 25 and don't have a job yet, but are interested in getting in the door and needed financial assistance
- Open call
- Needed to figure out what they could get into -- didn't have access to main event
### Origin Stories: Jedi and Padawan
- ZARface:
- Graduated from university with a CS degree
- Their sister Zayi recommended he join the Consensys bootcamp
- Was halfway through bootcamp when he saw Ric's tweet
- Meeting folks here led to more connections and network effect
- Zayi:
- Yalor and Zayi are current Jedi
- Padawans vote on each new Jedi proposal so that the Padawans are able to have a voice in who mentors and shapes
- Yalor:
- In Padawan Discord there is a "Jedi Application" where you share some details about yourself and Tweet for signal
- Need Padawan emojis to join
- Met ZARface in Lisbon and was looking at for them, but then realized that all the Padawan needed someone to look after them
- The group organization seeds were planted here, but the group is super self-organized
### Jedi Goals
- Jedi want to mentor and help the Padawan create value where they want to instead
- Current focus is on Eth Denver in collaboration with Blockchain Education Network
- Goal is to get 100 Padawan to Eth Denver
- Goal is to bring "voice of reason and DAO expertise"
- How to think about infrastructure, how to set up tooling, how to communicate with one another
- Great to see working groups forming and moving forward
- Currently have 5 working groups!
### Working Groups
Sub sects of the community aiming to "elevate the DAO into what it can be"
- Tavia runs the *Social*
- Aleem currently taking over the *Technical*
- Technical team created a Gitbook with lots of helpful content
## Community
- Similar story to how many folks in the space started -- inviting and open invitations to bring folks in from the periphery
- This injects more diversity into the space: "Not just the Padawan learning fro us boomers" but also us learning from them
- Providing access to the younger generation
- Joseph Kosuth (founder of conceptual art) created his founding piece that he sent ot MoMA when 16 as an anon, and came out of hiding when 21
- https://www.moma.org/artists/3228
## How is it Going?
- Eth Lisbon first event for everyone
- Have raised 76.2 ETH so far in the Padawan Yeeter
- Yeeter only shows ETH balance on the frontend so there is even more funds raised than what's shown!
- To be clear, *not* focused on the raise -- looking at getting youth to events and the working groups
- Have the funds for what they want to do now, but are having other community calls (such as Eth Denver) and are looking figuring out next few months
- Treasury diversification next step (xDAI)
- Sending folks to Eth Denver: to get all the Padawan there need roughly ~$130,000
- Will go into a safe on xDAI
### Governance Flow For New Members
- Lisbon Padawans, New York Padawans, Denver Padawans...
- What does tiered membership look like for folks joining at different times?
- Have a large pot of funds, but not funds that were tributed in
- Funds are in Mainnet treasury controlled by funders which provides oversight
- DAO wanting to take control of funds is worked out with the Padawan and the Jedi advisor council
- If moving funds to xDAI can consider having the Jedi as shareholders, or even set up a reputation token for the Padawan and this can be tributed in showing skin-in-the-game
### Workstreams
- Are funds being used to pay for work in these workgroups?
- Currently open discussion -- Padawan doing the work without concern for pay other than share value
- MetaCartel earmarked grant for folks building infrastructure
- Padawans will be able to determine if they're using funds to pay for work done in work streams in addition to events
- Bringing in Govrn to help with retroactively tracking and rewarding work
- Aaron (Govrn) was a previous Haus Party guest in 2021
- Considering a *Grants Dashboard* where members will be able to request funding, but this may be a distraction from core goal of getting folks to conferences
- Raid Guild working on something similar (Dungeon Master)
- What does it look like for Padawan to graduate into Jedi?
## Other Questions
- What is the "327" Meme Number?
- 327 is a well-known number throughout the Star Wars universe
- How is it decided who to recruit for new folks?
- Working on defining criteria, and are looking to build a team to address onboarding
- Onboarding is exciting -- the "political process of self-definition" and finding "what it means to be a Padawan"
- What was it like goign to the conferences and meeting folks in the IRL crypto culture?
- Tavia came from a non-technical background and didn't know anyone in Lisbon initially, but met lots of folks who introduced them to others
- ZARface felt it was refreshing to be in a new country again, and was excited to network
- What's it been like to interact with DAOs for the first time? What are your opinions? What is exciting? Any concerns?
- Aleem: absolutely fire! VitaDAO is favorite.
- What could it look like for a DAO to control IP and the price of IP?
- Concern: What if a meme completely took over a DAO? Potential for a "51% attack on humans"
- Dekan: We all have our own stories of how we got involved and we have those stories of folks who helped us get involved initially
- Not easy to get into the space and there are lots of barriers
- There's a lot of focus on "going mainstream" but this may be the wrong approach and focus
- "We don't want mainstream!" & "Keep Ethereum weird!"
- Yalor: People find this when they're ready. If only focusing on "tokens -> dollars" folks are missing the point of what this is all about
### How did Yalor get into this space?
- In 2017, Yalor wasn't aware of DAOs or Eth, and a roommate's friend ([Griff Green](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVC9SbTmfSg)) showed up at his house and was talking about crypto
- Started to redpill Yalor into crypto's new paradigms and Yalor began to read and research
- Griff Green offered for Yalor to stay in his Hacker House in Spain, and Yalor went to Spain
- Yalor deeply impacted by the community and the technical challenges they were overcoming
- 1.5 years later, after burnout, moved to Hawaii and discovered article about MetaGame, and this led to MetaCartel ecosystem
- First met Dekan in person at Eth Denver
- James Waugh: Not about folks fighting for a piece of pie. We need folks making more flour. Need more bakers, more flour. Need more base layers
- Human capital is the "flour" -- PadawanDAO is the flour
- Our whole bakery will be worth more because we'll have more resources to bake with
- The Padawan are starting off 10x ahead since they don't need to unlearn bad habits
- We had to unlearn bad habits that they haven't developed
## Messages from (and to) PadawanDAO
- ZARface: Feel like whole experience was so new and felt like everything was awesome. Upon reflection, still excited to be here
- Met lots of established community folks
- Tavia: Younger generations (Millenials and Gen Z) will be future in the space. More that we do to onboard and activate is better for us in the long run
- Felipe: Tell the story as it's developing. DAOs were a bad word when he started 4 years ago. *Capacity to give* is the next trend
- Dekan: Be careful about anyone who calls themselves a DAO expert or anyone who proclaims that they're experts
- We should be experimenting as much as possible
- If you have an idea, try it!
- Yalor: "Live your own experiments"
