Notes: S3Ep9 (Offchain City) Join us for 🎉 Haus Party Live 🎉 every Thursday at 2pm EST on the [DAOhaus Discord](https://discord.gg/daohaus) ## Notes From the [Livestream](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1183021727) 🎉 > Initial notes shared after Haus Party LIVE! but will be updated afterward with more references and resources. **Topics** - [Offchain City](https://offchain.city/) **Hosts & Guests** - dekanbro, Vanilladelphia.eth, Bau, and other folks! - Gonçalo Magalhães from Offchain City --- 🌱 Welcome to our metaphorical garden! 🌱 ## Guest Introduction: Gonçalo Magalhães - Background: "Legacy dinosaur" with a building background -- previously helped folks evaluate where to buy land and place assets - Met up with Felipe in Lisbon ## Updates (DAOhaus Universe) - [RabbitHole](https://rabbithole.gg/) campaign kicked off - FoundationsDAO almost at 2000 folks now - Interesting to see what happens next! What will a 2000+ person DAO do? - How can we focus this energy? What kind of laser can we become? - Releasing multicall soon! - Folks have been using the new safe minions and new forms -- looking for feedback! ### How did you get into DAOs? - People person -- connect with folks easily - Met folks involved with Liscon and around the web3 & crypto space - Onboarded into DeFi and NFTs, and his "mind was blown" when seeing what was on top of the Ethereum platform and what the community is addressing - Digital representation to things he's envisioned around communal living - Started asking how to integrate these 2 realities? How to bridge gap between communities IRL and in the digital space? ## What is Offchain? - "Offchaining" a value: onchain value -> offchain - Not trying to impose vision -- rather working with community projects while wearing "builder cap" - Identify basic necessities for each community group - A landing platform is critical when establishing a community hub - Help set up other projects for success - Some projects have clearcut vision like The DAOist and Offchain works with projects to help catalize and push forward - When meeting Felipe, it was apparent of meeting someone "with the right level of altruism" -- we all sometimes need to be a bit selfish at times, but with a balance - *Needs to be a celebration of the individual* in order for the community to come together and align - Offchain's current focus is helping projects come to life correctly, and then will discuss a *Lisbon Token* that can be used across projects and provide means for folks to interact ## Individuals and Community - Balance and relationship of the individual and individuality to the larger community - Critical topic with DAOs -- need healthy conversation and dissent in DAOs - "Selfish" is a very strong word -- can't have an engaged community without looking at what folks receive for participation - To get to space of true generosity individuals need to have basic needs covered - What is the catalyst that brings folks together? ## Funding DAOs and Visas - Being able to provide Visas for folks who invest is a win-win situation - Has run funds before as DAOs -- come up with some directions and let folks vote on them - Saw that folks were interested in the Golden Visa idea ## Real Estate Experimentation - DAOhaus talked about "nomadic hacker houses" -- started as an April Fool's joke, but then folks were interested! - What hurdles are there in this space? - The DAOist has been experimenting with this -- creating "coordination points" and securing Portugal as a "port" for DAOs - Come stay in Lisbon for as long as needed on a project, could be supported by a communications team - Ideas move faster than execution - Ric Burton sponsored teenager hackers going to Liscon - Felipe wants to create an *art residency* focused community house - What would scaling issues look like when dealing with real estate/rentals? ## Discussion & Questions - What would a blueprint/playbook look like for future builders? - Offchain helping with handling logistics, and eventually can help with playbooks for others - What was the hardest aspect of this learning journey? - There's lots of FOMO in this space -- often folks change their minds quickly around things and people forget their manners - Folks need to treat each other with respect and courtesy and to stop ghosting each other - Folks under such massive cognitive loads that this becomes an issue and concern - How was Liscon? What was the general vibe? - Dao is a region in Portugal - There are tendencies to try everything and get burnt out - All projects want their own thing -- "we need narratives for shared successes" - Vibe: *spacetime is contested* -- everyone wanted to be everywhere, and sometimes it felt good to have space - Took example from MCON and focused largely on hosted panels - Lots of new folks in the space and lots of excitement -- "feels like we're on to something with the web3 space" -
