Working Group Guidelines & Expectations

This is a short guide that can serve as a default process for the working groups.

Here are all the working groups
Here are all the notes from the workshop discussions
Here are all the discussion recordings

Goals & Outcomes

Members of the working groups will collaborate to produce a draft standard based on the relevant proposal(s) discussed at the workshop. This draft standard will then be reviewed by the Steering Committee before final approval.

Each working group is in charge of defining the specific content of their standard and to encourage the adoption of such standard. If you are interested in taking an active role in the working group, please do not hesitate to speak up and be pro-active about your involvement.

Charter

The first goal of the working group is to come up with a charter defining the exact scope of the group and the standard. The charter must describe in detail the goals of the working group, what the standard aims to achieve, and what are the main milestones in order to accomplish these.

Furthermore, the charter should mention any overlap with other working groups, specifically outlining potential collaborations, as well as outline the motivation for such a standard.

Draft Standard

The draft will be a new document with the essential information for a self-contained standard (it is up to the working group to define what "self-contained" means). Ideally, a final draft of the standard should be presented to the Steering Committee before the next workshop.

Please email the drafts to contact@zkproof.org

Process

Each working group should define the right process for their work (even implicitely or in an ad-hoc way), but it is strongly enouraged that the following take place:

  • regular communication on the community forum group
  • once-a-month conference call to track progress
  • defining concrete milestones
  • encouraging community-wide discussion

Specifically, the leaders of the working group are in charge of taking the first steps towards engaging the community and generating progress on the charter and standards draft. Note that anyone can lead the working group, but by default the authors of the proposals are in charge of lifting the working group off the ground.

Suggested Initial Chronology

The dates below are the suggested maximum dates. Working groups are encouraged to submit the relevant material before the date below. The due dates are not hard dates, but more as guidance for the pace of the working group, i.e.: if no materials have been submitted for two or more due dates, then the working group will be considered innactive.

  1. July 31st 2020 - A first dedicated call must have taken place by this date in order to ensure the proper development of the charter and draft standard.
  2. August 31st 2020 - The working groups should present a final Charter, to be sent to contact@zkpoof.org.
  3. December 15th 2020 - The working groups should show substantial progress on the draft of the standard, with support from all the working group
  4. March 1st 2021 - The working groups should submit the draft for review and comments by the community
