# Refocusing Jan: Feb 2024

## Recap: January 2024

Jan had our first "growth spurt" from 25th Dec 2023 to 13th Feb 2024.
- Good: initial traction, community interest, capturing next wave of contributors
- Bad: good but not great compared to market leaders (awareness, interest), very average retention (<10%)

In business, things tend to move in step functions (ie. new feature, getting into newscycle etc). The law of competition also means that if we stand still, we'll lose our current users to better products.

A month and a half ago, we were on the outside looking in. Today, we're firmly in the arena, and I'm excited to use our existing momentum to build Jan into a successful business.

This is Jan's

I have included comparable growth numbers for an honest appraisal that accounts for macro AI interest. Ollama is a great benchmark as a well-run open source tool, and we have much to learn from them.

Note: Jan's long-term roadmap is likely to be very different from Ollama's, and I see us as pioneers in opening up the space for Local LLMs. Jan even has an Ollama integration!
