There are a lot of people who are worried about the sustainability of our civilization. They understand that the world as we know is changing rapidly and the future is undefined. Recent global lockowns demonstrated how important it is to have a contingency plan in case of a global supply chain collapse.
This document describes the framework which will focus communities on the things that matter. It could simplify coordination across different communities who want to prepare and become self sustainable. The cool part is that all these things make sense in the absence of collapse. They will make you, and your family happier, in any case.
The framework describes actions divided into categories.
Actions categorized into 4 priority types:
1. `Urgent` - must be done within a month or so
2. `Priority` - can be done in 1 year
3. `Important` - 3 years time frame
4. `Strategic` - hard to do, but needed. Could take decades
We outline the following areas which are essential for survival during the upcoming collapse:
## Permaculture
You will die without food. Food prices have started to climb. Food shortages are coming. We all must learn how to grow our own food. No workaround. In order to grow your food, your `priority` is to buy land. At least 0.5 hectare per family, but 1 is prefferable. The good news is that Bali has a lot of cheap and appropriate land in the mountains. Why mountains:
1. It's affordable. 1 hectar of freehold could be below $100k. Currently its quite easy to find at $50k. If you accept 25 year rent, it could be around $20k.
2. It has a mild climate which will boost your health
3. It is a growing paradise. Nearly everything can grow there.
4. In the mountains its easier to defend yourself.
5. The ecology and environment is amazing.
6. The planet is heating, so it is a good idea to find colder places.
7. Mountains have affordable and stable sources of energy: wind and geothermal.
There are a plenty of permaculture communities everywhere so exchanging genetic and bacterial material should be easy.
It is very `important` to establish a network of at least 100 autonomous permaculture communities in the following years.
## Health
If you have a problem with your health it is `urgent` that you repair yourself.
Fix teeth, make delayed operations, quit bad habits, etc. Check your mental health. Be positive about the future. Reflect on the idea that hard times are a period of huge opportunity. Those who are prepared will live happier lives than they do now.
On more `urgent` task is to [stockpile basic medicine](https://hackmd.io/@mastercyb/list-of-medicine).
Change your eating habits. Removing gluten and fast sugar decreases your risk of cancer, infarcts, diabetes etc. The piority is to have ~22 [bmi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_mass_index). Move more.
The key idea is the preparation of your your body so you don't need conventional healthcare.
The `Important` task is to establish a small network of home based [labs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_laboratory) and [emergencies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intensive_care_unit).
## Energy
The`priority` is to buy 5 kw of solar power. That will help to sustain a household if shtf now.

This section has to aggregate reliable suppliers of solar power:
- TODO
Wind power is not developed in Indonesia. So another `priority` is to build expertise in order to create [low cost wind turbines](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z4K7w3tM3E) and energy kites.

## Computing
Computers are the most comlex product of our civilization. In case of a collapse of supply chains it is the `strategic` goal to reproduce such a complex supply chain.
The only solution is `urgent` stockpiling. Investment in computers is a good idea because they must not lay down on a shelf. The blockchain industry produced a software which allows for monetization of every fundamental computer resource such as CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD and SSD.
So, the idea is that any household needs around 10 computers. In theory it doesnt matter which computer you will by. But desktops are better, because of 3 things:
1. They work with linux. So would not be locked or bricked by proprietary companies easily.
2. Repairablity. If you have 10 identical computers you can move parts from one to another.
3. They are easier to monetize now.
## Connectivity
There is currently only one option for reliable access to global wire - Starlink. We have tested it and it doesn't work on the island. Its a `priority` to make it work.
The last mile could be covered with the [Helium](https://www.helium.com/) network. Although it currently opperates only on lorawan (lowband) protocol, next year wifi and lte will be adopted. The `Urgent` task is to make aware all involved about existance of the technology. The `Priotiy` is to have good local expertise. `Important` is to build a working connectivity infrustructure on the island.
## Consensus
If an island will be cut from a global wire it is `important` to prepare necessary consensus infrustructure with te majority of nodes operating on the island. Communities will then have access to local currency and coordination mechanisms based on smart contracts. There is no existing framework which will allow to control node locations in permissionless settings. We will start from a simple mechanism with staked control of node locations. [Cosmos-sdk](https://v1.cosmos.network/sdk) or [substrate](https://substrate.io/) based frameworks are the good options to consider.
## Personal Data
Its an `urgent` task to move your data from the clouds.
We have to have local copies of:
- Wikipedia
- major Github repos
- useful content from good related topics from Youtube channels
- a collection of the best books
- cultural media content such as movies, music and games
## Flexible Manufacturing
Previous experience shows that ability to defend could be the most critical for survival. Having simple infrustructure for 3d printed guns is a `priority`. Bows and arbalets could be effective in jungles. Hunting skills, including underwater could also be very helpful.
`Important` is to establish a network of small scale 3d printed labs with necessary stockpiles.
