# See yourself in Cyber? - A call to join Cyber.Kimathi TryHackMe workspace.

> Don't just be a cyber security enthusiast or newbie, do more, be more!

The outlook for cyber security careers is extremely positive, making it a great option for anyone looking to enter the field. According to ISC2.org there are approximately 2.93 million cyber security positions open around the globe.

There's no better way to see yourself in cyber this season than joining the **24 days of Advent of Cyber *2022***. Advent of Cyber is an annual event organized by **TryHackMe**: an online platform that teaches cyber security through short, gamified real-world labs.

The Cyber Security Club of Kimathi has opened a TryHackMe workspace for it's members to **collaborate and compete** during the [Advent of Cyber 2022](https://tryhackme.com/christmas). The workspace is extended to allow any student in the University (dkut) to join and get started with cyber security.

## Why should you consider joining?

Probably this is will be your first time learning cyber security, probably not. Regardless, don't be an enthusiast. **`Do more and be more!`**

If you're into IOT and ML, there will be topics and tasks that will teach you **IOT hacking**. << *sssh! There are Raspberry Pis to be won too.*

And if you're intrested in web development? Worry no more, Advent of Cyber *gotcha*. They've included **web exploitation** tasks that will help you make web apps that are more secure and reliable.

Other topics to be corvered include: **Red teaming**, **Cyber Defense** and **Cyber Investigations**.

## How to Join
### Prerequisites:
1. dkut student email - i.e ([e-mail])
2. TryHackMe Account - [sign up here](https://tryhackme.com/)
**NB;** Use your student email to sign up.(If you have an account already, change the email in your profile to your student email and **verify** it.)
3. Join the Advent of Cyber 2022 [Room](https://tryhackme.com/room/adventofcyber4)

### Joining the workspace:

After signing up/in, you'll be ready to join the workspace.
Now, navigate to the compete icon, click workspace, and you'll see our workspace: '**Cyber.Kimathi**'
Click the workspace and you're in!


## What to expect

Each day in December, a new (beginner friendly) task will be released, which follows a fun Christmas story! Every task has both written learning content, and a supporting video.

**`Starting Date:` Thursday 1st, December 2022
`Task Release Time:` Between 3pm and 11pm EAT**

**What happens when you're an able to finish all tasks in the 24 days?** The Advent of Cyber tasks will remain open until November 2023, so you have plenty of time to earn your certificate should you not complete all the tasks right away.
