World champion Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) has won two of the past three editions, though he won't be lining up to take part in 2023. Last time out, the Belgian dominated the stage 4 time trial to win by 58 seconds from Stefan Küng before defending his lead on the final day to take the overall title by 1:17 from Brandon McNulty and 1:21 from Dani Martínez. Evenepoel's teammate Fabio Jakobsen took out both sprint stages to bring his Algarve career total to four stage wins. He'll be back in 2023 hoping to add more against the likes of Alexander Kristoff (Uno-X) and Jake Stewart (Groupama-FDJ). The GC battle looks set to take place between riders including Rui Costa (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty), João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates), Jai Hindley, Sergio Higuita (Bora-Hansgrohe), and Tobias Foss (Jumbo-Visma). Ineos Grenadiers boast the strongest squad, however, with Martínez, Tom Pidcock, and Thymen Arensman all taking part. A flat 24.4km time trial around Lagoa rounds out the race. Ineos Grenadiers bring a team which looks the strongest at the race, with Thymen Arensman, Filippo Ganna, Dani Martínez, and Tom Pidcock lining up at the start. Other GC men to watch include Warren Barguil (Arkéa-Samsic), Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal-QuickStep), and Tobias Johannessen (Uno-X), and Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ).
