The event will be hosted by award-winning actor, singer, and songwriter Darren Criss. Films that received nominations for their scores included Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, scored by Alexandre Desplat; Michael Abels‘ score for Nope; Michael Giacchino‘s score for The Batman, John Powell‘s score for Don’t Worry Darling; and Rob Simonsen‘s score for The Whale. Song nominees include Taylor Swift, Diane Warren, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, and Desplat, who also wrote songs for Pinocchio. It’s of interest that a few of the composers nominated did not make it onto the Oscars shortlists, announced on Weds, Dec. 21. Past SCL Awards winners who went on to win Oscars include Hans Zimmer for Dune; Billie Eilish and FINNEAS for No Time To Die; Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Jon Batiste for Soul; Hildur Guonadóttir for Joker, and more.
