# Everything About Courses
## Courses
In order to graduate from National Dong Hwa University, as a computer science & information engineer student, you are expected to have completed the classes mentioned in the [website](https://www.csie.ndhu.edu.tw/en/course-en/inter_bachelor-en/2020_ndhu_csie_intl_undergraduate_en/).

As you become a junior in Dong Hwa, you are expected to select your specialize subject in either the "Networking" or "Multimedia" categories. You must take at least 21 credit hours (i.e. 7 classes or more) in total from one of these sections.
However, if you would like to take classes in other section, which is different from the one you have picked, you are limited to only take "2 classes" at most. For example, if you decide to pick Networking as you specialize subject, you must take at least 5 classes in this section and at most 2 classes in the Multimedia section.

The “CPE Programming Ability Certification” course is planned for taking a computer test for your programming skills, the test plays an important role in your future job hunting, so although the graduation will not be affected by the level of the grade, but the grade will be printed on your diploma, so do your best on the CPE test.

**Course Withdrawal :**
As the "Courses Add/Drop Online period" has ended, NDHU provides a "Midterm Courses Withdrawal Application", you can only drop **ONE** class with no exceptions and your total credits must not be less than credit regulations of every department after withdrawal. So within the first two weeks of the semester make sure to consider your classes and your workload cautiously.

## Online Services
### Email
Make sure to log in to your email consistently in order to see different notices sent out by the school and department offices. Those content specially written in English are mostly important to foreign students, be sure to pay more attention on it.
Your email address is a valuable tool. With the student email provided by Dong Hwa you can register for lots of free software from different online websites. As an example, you could receive a bunch of softwares from free IDEs (like Jetbrains Services), free Virtual Machine, even free Microsoft Office.

### Software
Dong Hwa provides "Free Software" for students, yet you have to log in to your student account and be connected to the school internet in order to download and activate the software.

### E-Learning
E-Learning is an online center for all the courses you have taken. Teachers and professors will post their syllabus as well as their assignments, your grades on tests and quizzes, and various other information like their email addresses or the contact information for teacher assistants on the website.

### Tuition Payment
In order to check your tuition fees and payment status, log in to the website of "Bank Of Taiwan". From the top you should enter your ARC Number, your student ID Number, your birthday in the format of yyyymmdd, and finally type the validation number that you see in the box and click the button that says "確認登入" (The bottom-left one).

**Troubleshoot :**
If you found that you could not log in to the bank's website, please check your birthday.
Try changing your birth year into Taiwanese year.
Taiwanese year = AD - 1911, e.g. 2000 - 1911 = 089 (Don't forget the zero at front).

After logging in you will be able to see your Account Information.
To pay a bill, click on the button that is labeled "查詢" in the right corner of each row.
As you scroll down the site, you will be given several options such as Online CreditCard Payment, ATM Payment, etc. Yet the easiest way for you to choose is to print out the form as a PDF with this button :
The PDF will soon be downloaded. After printing out the form you can go to any convenient store (Such as Family Mart at school) to pay the bill.
### Navigating The Website
The best tip we can provide you for navigating the NDHU student webpage is to use "Google Chrome" as your default browser because there is **No English Version** of this page provided by the school, however, with Chrome you can right-click on the website and select **Translate to English** for a rough translation.
## Applications Needed
### ARC
You'll need to get your ARC as soon as possible if you want to apply for a bank account or a work permission. You'll need to bring the documents mentioned below :
* A photocopy of your passport main page and the entry stamp into Taiwan
* A photocopy of your student ID
* Your Student Certificate
* NTD $1000

Notice that you'll need to pick a "Chinese Name" and write the address of your residence (such as school dormitory or off campus apartment) in Chinese.

### NHI
You can go to the OIA to apply for your National Health Insurance Card, yet the limitation for this is that you have to stay in Taiwan for 6 consecutive months, which means that during the time you can't leave the country if you want to apply one.
The NHI card is **MASSIVE HELP** because no matter which medical assistances you choose, either a clinic or the hospital, you'll only have to pay a small amount of money due to the government's medical payment coverage. Once you received your NHI card, you won't have to renew it.
### Banking
There are two banks in the campus, the "Post Office" (In Taiwan, the post office also includes the function of a bank) and the "Taiwan Business Bank".
Currently having a Post Office account will be a better option for you because you **cannot deposit your money into the Taiwan Business Bank at school**, you'll have to go to Hualien City to do this.

### Work Permit
You can go to OIA department to apply for your Work Permit make sure you bring your :

## CSIE Regulations
### Mandatory Classes
This [site](https://www.csie.ndhu.edu.tw/en/course-en/inter_bachelor-en/2020_ndhu_csie_intl_undergraduate_en/) is a list of required classes before graduation.
### Service Learning
**Service Learning I** and **Service Learning II** are required classes which you must volunteer at least 18 hours for each towards our department or other administrative offices.
Make sure you signed up for the "Service Learning" class which is opened by the CSIE department, otherwise the class won't be counted as your graduation requirements.

**Attention :**
"Service Learning I" is offered in the **Spring** Semester and "Service Learning II" is offered in **Fall**, so please plan your schedule accordingly.

You are welcome to sign up in the CSIE office for your service learning assignment, where you will be assigned a task, not choose your own tasks!

Regardless of where you perform your service learning, make sure you fill in all your hours on the following form and hand it in the e-learning class page before the end of deadline.
### Interdisciplinary Autonomous Learning Certification

Interdisciplinary Autonomous Learning Certification (IALC) is separated into 3 categories that each student must complete a minimum number of hours.

After logging in click on the Activities Info tab to see all available events happening around school.
After clicking on the tab you will see a bunch of tables with a variety of events. You must click on the "View" button to see more information about the event and which of the 3 categories it will apply to.

#### Applying for activities outside the campus :
>In the situations that you went to an activity that is not listed in the system, you are still able to apply to get hours from the activity using this method.
Almost the same process at the begin of applying for in-school activities.
When you're at this step, please select "Off-Campus Activity Application".
You will then be greeted with the following page :
Click on "New Application" to begin the process.
Next fill-out the appropriate information for the event

For "Activity Domain" please choose the one that best matches the activity you have participated in.

After clicking "Save", upload the attachments, from here you should provide some relevant information such as flyers, brochures, and certificate in order to pass the validation.
Finally, returning to the "Extra-School Activity Apply" tab will give you the opportunity to edit, submit, and delete your application.

You must click Submit to have the event reviewed and potentially approved.

### CPE

# Living in NDHU
Balancing school and social is an important part of staying sane at school. In this section we hope to give you some tools to make that more possible.

### Bus
All of the public tansportation fee (except for the Taiwan High Speed Rail, HSR) in Taiwan can be payed by "EasyCard" or cash. Your student ID card is also an Easycard, so it's really important that you **do not drop your student ID card**. In addition, you could also use it to buy groceries at convenience stores, including Family Mart and 7-11.

### Bicycle

**Pay Detailed Attention :**
After having your own bicycle in campus, make sure to **BUY A LOCK FOR YOUR BICYCLE** of it might be stole! Also remember to apply your bicycle sticker every year.

**Only having a sticker is allowed to park in campus** due to the administrative policy in order to check whether the bike is verified for students owners or not.

If the deadline has passed and you forgot to apply for your sticker. Make your way to the main administrative building and go to Room 107 on th first floor, you may apply your sticker in person.

6. Go check that your bicycle is safe and locked

Make sure you park at the right parking place designated for bicycles because it will be towed by the police and you will have to pay 50nt to get it back. If your bicycle gets towed you need to go to the front gate.

If you live in the Dormitory, you need to apply for an IP Address to be able to use your wall-internet-jack. In order to apply, you need to use the paper behind your room door. It is in both english and chinese. If you do not have this paper then you can ask the dorm manager for one.

* Fitness center with bikes and treadmills along with other cardio machines
* Weight room for muscle building and body training
* Lockers to place your things

### Incubation Center
A NDHU student gets **100 free pages** to print every semester, which can be useful when printing your homework and other assignments. You may be able to use the computers at the incubation center computer lab and also the printers for your documents.

## Food
In Zhixue, we only have 2 main supermarkets:
* **Yide(宜德生活百貨)**
* **Tong Guan(統冠超級市場)**
Both places cater to different needs when it comes to purchasing food.
**Yide** specializes in **quick processed food** like cookies and chips and instant noodles, so things like this is more cheaper here than at Tong Guan.
**Tong Guan** has the vegetables, eggs, and meats that you might be looking for at a semi-reasonable price if you want to **cook your own meals**.
On the other hand, if you want fresh fruits, a stroll down Zhixue will show you many places selling bananas, apples, plums, and other fruits at a cheaper price than both supermarkets.
## Medication
If you need cough medicine or allergy medication you can go to the pharmacies. More services are showed below at **Supportive Services - Medical Sevices**

This application includes a bunch of functions like police radio, emergency report, anti-fraud services and so on, which is even more convenient than calling the police. Yet the application does not have an English interface, might be a bit awkward.

## Medical Services
### The Health Center On Campus
As an international student far from home, taking care of your health is very important.
In the **main administration building** on campus there is a clinic on the **first floor in Room 114**.
You can take different measurements such as weight, blood pressure, height, and BMI as well as talk to the nurse about various health concerns.
The service hours are **Monday to Friday: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. (Open at noon, closed on holidays and national holidays)**

# Frequently Asked Questions
### How do I make an appointment with the hospital?
Take Tzu Chi Hospital as an example :
First, you have to pick your division you would like to go.
Here we take "orthopedics" as our choosen division.
Second, pick the date and doctor which you would like to make the appointment.
At the left hand side, you will see two options :
1. Pick "初診" for the first appointment
In the first blank, please type in your ARC number.
In the second blank, please type in your phone number.
In the third blank, please type in the verification code and click **"掛號"** at the right side.

For the first visit, you will have to arrive earlier for filling in some demanding forms.

2. Pick **"複診"** for the return visit
Mostly the same as the first one, yet you don't have to type in your phone number.
