Taiwan L10N within FLOSS projects
---
This community track is designed to provide participants with a space to explore and share experiences related to localization workflows when contributing to or maintaining free and open source software (FOSS) projects. Topics may include the various skills, tools, experiences, and mindsets required, as well as the difficulties, challenges, trends, and ultimately the struggles, achievements, solutions, and insights gained along the way.
A well-rounded localization process requires support in multiple areas, including proper rendering (e.g., fonts), input methods (e.g., IMEs), internal processing (such as Unicode support), translation, and cultural adaptation (e.g., text direction, date and time formats, currency systems, commonly used paper sizes, icon design, etc.). It also involves language resources, such as corpora used for AI training. All of these elements are essential to ensure that local communities can use software in a more natural and comfortable way.
Within the world of free software, there are many types of projects—from lower-level systems such as general GNU/Linux distributions or *BSD systems, to higher-level desktop applications like the GNOME and KDE desktop environments, as well as cross-platform tools for graphics, 3D modeling, and animation (e.g., GIMP, Krita, Blender), and multimedia software across various domains. Any localization-related topic within free and open source projects is warmly welcomed—everyone is invited to join and contribute!
