**January flower: Carnation** Carnations are one of the two birth flowers for January, the other being snowdrops. Theophrastus, a Greek botanist, originally named carnations dianthus, combining the words Dios (Gods) and Anthos (flower) to translate to "flower of the gods." Carnations are associated with love and remembrance, and each color has a different meaning. For example, a dark red carnation is a symbol of deep love, pink conveys gratitude, and white represents purity and innocence. Carnations are also edible, and their essential oils are used in aromatherapies and perfume products. Snowdrops, on the other hand, symbolize rebirth, overcoming obstacles, and hope. They are white in color and bloom in the winter or early spring. Carnations are available practically all year long, while snowdrops are winter bloomers. **Related Posts** [December flower: Holly](https://hackmd.io/@contentstream/S1ZlXAcTT) [February flower: Violet](https://hackmd.io/@contentstream/BkxpmRcpp) [January tree: Pine](https://hackmd.io/@contentstream/BkxpmRcpp) [January stone: Garnet](https://hackmd.io/@contentstream/Hk0241oT6)
