# Tromso team meeting bus/transport info This note: https://hackmd.io/@coderefinery/tromso-meeting-transport [toc] ## Bus/taxi from airport to city - Taxi - Car-pool if you can. - Cost should be around 250 NOK. - Airport bus - Right outside the terminal building is a dark red "Airport Express" bus - 15 min driving time - Stops at all major hotels - 125 NOK - Leaves every 30 minutes. - You can pay with credit card. - Enough room for luggage. - When in doubt, take the airport bus. - City bus - The cheapest option (40-ish NOK or less) - You either need the app or a bus card. Bus card can be hard to get at the airport (airport under reconstruction). More info about bus card or app in a separate section. - https://kart.fylkestrafikk.no/ - Lines 24, 26, 40, 42 all take you to city center. 42 is fastest (goes under the island), 40 is second fast. 24 and 26 take a bit longer route. - The bus stop is just outside the parking: https://kart.fylkestrafikk.no/stoppested/NSR:StopPlace:55570 - Exit terminal building, take any of the two stairs immediately down to garage, go across the parking to the outside towards mountains - You need to cross the road for the bus stop towards city center. In other words, towards south is towards the city center. Northwards would be away from city center. This is **old satellite photo**. The airport is under construction and the buildings are bigger and there are now more of them. There are two stair cased down under the parking, right outside the terminal building. ![airport](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/H1JzSND3p.jpg) ## Bus from city to university - From this bus stop: https://kart.fylkestrafikk.no/stoppested/NSR:StopPlace:61828 - Take 20 or 21 or 34 (in other words any bus that departs from there) - All of those go to university - Shortest walk is to go one stop past UiT, to the stop "UNN" (university hospital) - This is the "UNN" stop: https://kart.fylkestrafikk.no/stoppested/NSR:StopPlace:52482 - See below on how to find the meeting room ## Shortest bus route from airport to university - From airport take any of the busses towards city (24, 26, 40, 42) but only until the very next stop: Giaeverbukta - At Giaeverbukta change to 33 towards UiT/UNN ## Bus app or bus card and bus prices - Easiest is to get the app which you can connect to bank card (but you can avoid using your phone, see below): https://fylkestrafikk.no/menu/tickets-and-fares/troms-billett-tickets-app/?sprak=3 - Alternative is to get a blue plastic bus card and put money on it. You can get the plastic card in many kiosks around town but not sure whether you can buy it at the airport. - The card looks like the card in [this news article](https://www.folkebladet.no/nyheter/i/04jmRg/na-kan-du-bruke-tromskortet-i-hele-landet) - If you buy the plastic card, put 400 NOK on it. Maybe they have something for one week. - You can buy the plastic card [here](https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/3110917557) or [here](https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/552248355) (and probably many other places) - You need to either activate bus ticket on phone before entering bus or hold the plastic card against the card reader when entering bus and it should beep and show you remaining balance - Useful website: https://kart.fylkestrafikk.no/ - you can click on bus stops - Rush hour tickets are 40+ NOK, off rush hour are 20+ NOK - Tickets are valid for 1 h and you can change and return with the same ticket if you are within the 1 h - I don't think you can pay cash on busses - Cost for one trip should be the same whether it is app or physical plastic bus card ## Bus etiquette - You need to push the red button if you want the bus to stop. Some drivers will just drive on if nobody pushes stop (it always stops at UNN and UiT because there are always people leaving bus). - You might need to wave a bus to stop at a bus stop. At less central bus stops, bus drivers might just drive through without stopping otherwise (at UNN it will stop).
