--- tags: meeting note --- # DRA meeting notes Attendees: Heidi Seibold, Matias, Richard, Radovan ## CodeRefinery CR: until march 25, 80-90% is in-kind people should not work for free and should be credited Things work slower than they should, because money moves slow CR cannot go on funding applications, cannot easily do workshops, cannot take money CR: How to make it sustainable? -> accepting grant funding needs to be possible Probable goals for CR: - have good governance - freelance works for some - in-kind should be provided No ownership of lesson materials, development is slow Funding not the biggest worry, but sustainability ## Digital Research Academy DRA: not yet legal entity, but plans are in place Center for open science from US (join forces, office in europe) -> will be figured out in Feb -> DRA would become training branch of COS to outside: for profit, but inside: non-profit (formally non profit is complicated) DRA: trainers bring their own materials Heidi happy to come by and tell "us" about DRA. ## Ideas bold proposal: make DRA non-profit side of CodeRefinery? instructor co-training "we (CR) are wainting for someone to take it and take it take it to the next level" CR: open source DRA: non-profit public teaching: freemium things extra hands on thing: could use larger network, supporters -> Heidi likes the "bold idea" Any CodeRefinery teacher could become part of DRA, go through train the trainer program, become part of instructor pool. DRA could have separate bucket for people that do or cannot do freelance work -> pay someone to develop CR materials? EU grants could be something we could go for together -> DRA is also looking into it for "getting started" , not financially stable for next 2-3 years -> CR&DRA have similar DNA, we all try to find a way that we are allowed to do what we like doing Governance structure? - CR and DRA could be partners - board of stakeholders - community driven - just money alone not enough - more open source-y How can "in-kind" contribution to DRA work? -> institution could write invoice --- ## Good next steps - CR team meeting in end of Feb - keep each other informed - DRA and CR to check future steering models/governance - we forward requests to DRA - feedback on materials - CR workshops have partners for advertising, local "breakoutroom" - DRA to send teachers our way --- Dagstuhl event: https://www.dagstuhl.de/seminars/seminar-calendar/seminar-details/24161 -> Heidi asks if we could get an invite -> who of CR could go?
