# John Jackobson Interview ### 9/28/2020 **Course:** iOS **University:** City of College of New York ### Personal Questions *Tell me about yourself.* - Majoring in Computer Science, was always interested in video games, would love to create one, but got really drawn towards web development - second year - did the MAD course back in February and is currently enrolled in remote iOS course - learned to really love app development *Why do you want to apply as a Tech Fellow?* - Likes teaching and helping his friends learn coding - a lot of his friends want to learn useful skills and don't know where to start *What skills do you have that would contribute as a Tech Fellow? Prior experiences?* - Hosted a React workshop with JS before (2-3 hours), threw in JS basics then went into React - has a lot of patience and finds that to be a really great skill - Had a prior internship for 2 months with a startup local to him, barely worked on Codebase bc it was difficult to setup the environment *What does it take to build a good community in the classroom?* - Communication outside of the classroom like a Slack is a good place to start. - Saw that events like the prework party was an awesome way to bring people together - Best to bring people together when they're struggling *What skills do you want to build/improve on? (technical/non-technical)* - He would like to get better at iOS development in general - Public speaking is a big motivation for him, gets really nervous and anxious when he did a workshop once but got better as he went through it - Wants to get better at elaborating his thoughts so get better to get other people to understand what he means *How was the TF application process? Would you make any changes to improve it?* - Kind of confusing, felt like he did 3 applications - scholarship application - tf application - something else maybe he is not sure, did an interest form then the actual application - just a lot of forms, but felt it was easy overall ### Live Demo Applicants should present their favorite tool that they used from the previous course that they've taken with.
