Prior experiences?* - Teaching is not just about having soft-skills, they should be a role-model for students - Definitely technical skills - Have been technically mentoring students - Attended conference regarding how to succeed in grad school - Common patterns - Give students an opportunity to speak up *What does it take to build a good community in the classroom?* - encouraging students to stay (not leave department or class) - Understands that some studnets come in with a no-help mindset - Combat: break into groups with assigned questions & everyone must talk about what they contributed - Gives him a good idea of where everyone is at - Requires focus *What skills do you want to build/improve on? (technical/non-technical)* - "There is no end to improving your technical skills." - Communication skills - When students ask a questions where I don't know the answer *How was the TF application process?
