# Mingjia Wang Returning TF Interview ### 10/30/2020 **Course:** iOS **University:** UC Irvine ### Personal Questions *Why do you want to RE-apply as a Tech Fellow?* - Feels like its a pretty rewarding experience bc every time he teaches he learns a lot about swift and ios dev - Also, in terms of seeing the improvements in communication and the soft skills is something that pushes him - Remaining a part of the bigger CodePath community is also what draws him in, like workshops, career fairs, opportunities, and networking things. - Appreciates the opportunities - Most of what Mingjia has gained was from the VCF - got a first round with Bloomberg thanks to the VCF - Appreciated the special referral links and exposure to a lot of new companies because it threw him into learning about how to talk to recruiters and companies - Feels like Memo was a big proponent in helping him and peers advance his careers - Does feel like CodePath could do a little more for alumni career growth but understands CodePath does a lot already for students *What skills did you gain after running as a TF?* - Organizational skills for sure grew bc having to run the class and knowing how and when to contribute to his class helped him better manage his time - Definitely grew in soft skills and presentation skills bc of the pressure of having to present in front of ppl when their camera's off - obvious growth in technical skills *How successful were you in creating a CodePath community? What helped/what didn't?* - Does not know how successful they were remotely bc students didnt have cameras on a lot of the time - felt like maybe it could have been better but hard to judge *What improvements did you make to the course while running as a TF?* - UCI TFs transferred everything into Google Slides and Notion - They did this to make it easier for the TFs to go through slides and content better and for students to be able to follow along as well - they put code, screenshots, gifs, and what not to break guides down more - Memo took inspiration from that to bring into the new curriculum updates *How do you plan to keep growing CodePath at your University?* - Could be doing a lot more marketing and outreach - UCI TFs have their own people involved with marketing and outreach, but he thinks it could be improved *How can CodePath help you improve your course runs? (i.e. improvements on labs, slide decks, TF conference, scholarships to students)* - It would be nice if CodePath pumped out videos to supplement instruction - videos that talked about the theory more rather than code alongs - improvements overall explaining the material essentially - Videos would be made specifically for the Tech Fellows, teaching them how to teach topics, the videos would not be for the students bc often times tech fellows dont just want to show video but they want to deliver - Mingjia: _"im sure tech fellows know what the lines are doing, but giving them a way to deliver concepts, would make a big difference"_ - _use table views so many times, but when he was a student and doing his final project, still saw himself going back and looking up the steps of making the tableViews, which made him feel like he did not learn things deeply, codepath throws students into these code alongs, but things didn't stick as well as intended_ - A better process for submitting feedback to the gurus and higher ups for things to improve or iterate - agrees that adding theory could be beneficial and that a lot of work needs to be put into drilling ### Live Demo (Slide Deck) ==**NOTE:**== Have TFs upload their slide deck here: [**TF-Led Slide Decks**](https://hackmd.io/ZztQ53zYRDijM0NpzWV1rw?both) Applicants should present their a slide deck on their favorite topic from the course. * **Additional notes:** * **Verdict:** Pass ---
